Should I keep the newborn away from my toddlers when they are sick?

Should I keep the newborn away from my toddlers when they are sick?

Yes: This is an excellent question. I would say yes (and to have them cover to cough and wash hands often). I will also refer this to other doctors to learn what our healthtap neonatologists, pediatricians and infectious disease experts have to say about exposure to 'germs' and long-term health. ...Read more

Severe cough or labored breathing could be due to a respiratory infection. Vomiting or diarrhea may be a sign of a gastrointestinal infection or food allergy. No: Your newborn has not been immunized against vaccine preventable diseases, is not immune to influenza, and cannot localize infections as well as an older child can. It is best to keep your newborn away from anyone who has a communicable disease. ...Read more

When is it ok to take a newborn out to visit relatives, i know they're more likely to get sick then us.

When is it ok to take a newborn out to visit relatives, i know they're more likely to get sick then us.

Hard to say: To me the scariest issue in the 1st 2mo is an infant with fever. Thats because some of mothers germs can quietly transfer to baby at birth ; weeks later become a major infection. It is good not to expose your newborn to a lot of people in the first 6-8 wks when a fever might be a terrible germ or uncle freds cold. If around, they must practice good hand washing ; staw away if ill. ...Read more

Cold and flu season: I discourage new parents from taking their new babies out and about during cold and flu season. Use your best judgement. If there are going to be other kids at the family gathering then coughing and sniffles are likely going to be there too increasing the risk of your baby catching an infection. If you decide to go, carry hand sanitizer insist any body who want to hold the baby clean their hands. ...Read more

Yes: Would make sure he has been burped well and hold him upright for 30 minutes after his feed. Follow his voiding and stooling closely. If he is not peeing and pooing then you should have him checked at the doctor. If it is projectile(across the room) or pine green i would have him evaluated immediately. ...Read more
