Should I go to the emergency room if I suspect I have a blood clot?

Should I go to the emergency room if I suspect I have a blood clot?

Probably: Because evaluating for the presence of a DVT usually requires an ultrasound, and because dvt's should be diagnosed as early as possible, if you suspect you have one you should go the emergency department. Although it's always good to discuss first with your primary doctor, most doctors do not have the ability to perform diagnostic ultrasonography in their office.

MAY NOT BE RELATED: Most likely it is not related directly it could be inflamed vein where they placed the needle, it could be a clot if they place a central line for your blood transfusion if there is no swelling in the arm most likely it is not clot transfusion reaction does not wait that long so it is not the blood if persisted and you still concern check with your physician or your surgeon.

Redness: Redness could be a sign of infection in the foot, particularly if the circulation is not normal. His foot swelling should be treated by keeping the foot elevated. You should check with his surgeon or whoever is on call for his surgeon. I expect that he should be staying off of his feet as much as possible, and keeping his foot elevated.

Deep vein clots: Clots in the deep vein system are the ones of concern. May be found from inactivity or restriction of venous flow from constriction or compression or dehydration or related to other illness. Need to watch for pain, swelling, discomfort when walking or moving foot/ankle. If concerned need venous dopplers and physical exam

I had a tooth extraction 5 days ago and my blood clot has dislodged (I suspect while I was sleeping). How do I proceed?

I had a tooth extraction 5 days ago and my blood clot has dislodged (I suspect while I was sleeping). How do I proceed?

Normally: You may proceed as you would if you did not have tooth extraction. By now the healing process is well on its way. If you have any symptoms, contact your dentist. For good health - Have a diet rich in fresh vegetables, fruits, whole grains, milk and milk products, nuts, beans, legumes, lentils and small amounts of lean meats. Avoid saturated fats. Drink enough water daily, so that your urine is mostly colorless. Exercise at least 150 minutes/week and increase the intensity of exercise gradually. Do not use tobacco, alcohol, weed or street drugs in any form. Practice safe sex, if you have sex. Get HPV vaccine.

How is someone with a suspected blood clot in the leg and a lung infection (pneumonia) treated?

How is someone with a suspected blood clot in the leg and a lung infection (pneumonia) treated?

Pneumonia: Is treated with antibiotics. Treatment of a blood clot in the leg depends on the type and location of the vein that is thrombosed. If it is an anatomic "deep vein", it may require anticoagulation or more agressive treatment depending on your clinical situation.

How do you know if u have a blood clot disorder?

How do you know if u have a blood clot disorder?

Blood clot disorder: Easy, do you bruise easily? When you cut yourself shaving do you stop bleeding after a while. Is that what you mean by "a blood clot disoreder", or are you speaking about venous thrombosis, blood clot in the veins of your legs that can travel to your lungs (pulmonary embolism) that cause sudden death? A venous thrombosis is usually pretty painful and the leg swells up pretty dramatically.

What is a good means of determining if I have a blood clot?

Depends on where: Venous blood clots in the arms and legs often produce swelling and a fullness like pain, and sometimes a discoloration however can be present without symptoms especially in their early stages. Other symptoms can be unexplained fever or shortness of breath. An good history and physical with an ultrasound if indicated will help. Do you have risk factors? This is an improtant discussion point.

Can I have a blood clot weeks to months without don't know?

Can I have a blood clot weeks to months without don't know?

Symptoms of thrombus: Symptoms are dependent on whether the clot fully blocks blood flow enough to cause symptoms. In some locations though, the "collateral" circulation is sufficient to preclude significant symptoms until some other stress occurs. So smaller clots, only partially occulding clots, or clots in vessels with rich collateral networks may not be symptomatic.
