Should I be worried if my 3 year old has had a cold for over a week. She can barley breath out her noise. She has a runny nose, Cough, and hasn't ate for the second night. Her doctor says it's allergies. Is this common with allergies.
Not necessarily: Most colds last 7-10 days. If baby doesn't have a fever or trouble breathing, and has been peeing normally (even if eating/drinking a little less), s/he may not need to be seen. Unfortunately we don't have treatment for runny noses, although nasal saline drops and bulb suctioning can help baby feel better. If you have concerns, though, your doctor is happy to check her/him! ...Read moreSee 7 more doctor answers
My infant is five months has a dry cough for a week and has a runny stuffy nose no fever should I take him to doctor is it a cold?
Cough: it is always hard to know when to take your baby to the doctor. If he is eating, drinking, pooping, peeing and acting otherwise well and having no fever then I would say no. If he has any trouble breathing, the cough becomes worse, he gets a fever, he becomes lethargic, dehydrated or you are just too worried then get him seen. Worried Mommas are always right. ...Read more
My daughter has a runny nose slight congested cough and is pooping but not a lot but her fever is normal.Do I need to take her through emergency?
Nah: There is nothing here that makes me think she is emergency room material tonight. I do not however know her age. But even if she is less than one month of age, congestion and slight cough are no cause for alarm. Push fluids, and keep her comfortable. ER's are for listless children who do not perk up with motrin, short of breath babies who can't keep down fluids, for example. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
Do i need to take my 3 week old to the hospital for a 99.8`F„ temperature if he is coughing and his chest sounds congested? And he has diarr
Not ER but...: A temperature of 99.8 taken rectally in a 3 week old is normal, so that wouldn't be my concern; however, the symptoms of cough and chest congestion warrant a visit to see his pediatrician this morning! He is young and those symptoms could be indicative of RSV, flu, or other illnesses that should be evaluated. Could also be reflux. Babies can normally sound congested but not with a cough. See doc! ...Read more

My son Nathan has a mild cough and runny noise but no fever should I take him to the hospital or not?
Trust your instincts: It sounds like he has a cold. Unless he is having trouble breathing or a fever that doesn't respond to medication then you can use your judgement. If you think he really looks ill and you are worried then always trust your instincts. If he just has a mild cold then there is no reason to go to the ER. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
Should i take him to the hospital? My son is 8 and has had a sinus infection for over a week.He is very congested and is wheezing and having trouble breathing.I just gave him his treatment.Should i wait a while and give him another treatment or take him r
I : I assume that since you are giving your son breathing treatments that he has asthma. Asthma attacks can have various triggers such as respiratory illnesses, allergies, pollution including cigarette smoke and perfume, very cold or hot air, and strenuous exercise. Giving albuterol whether through a nebulizer or inhaler is the first thing you should do for wheezing and respiratory distress. If the treatment is not working or if the child seems to need a treatment sooner than every 4 hours, this is a sign that they may need additional medications such as oral steroids and/or stronger albuterol treatments in an office or hospital setting. You should call your child's doctor and have him seen if it's during clinic hours or take him into the emergency room for evaluation. My daughter has a fever, cough, is losing her voice, sounds raspy, nd runny nose. What could this be? Should I take her to doctor or treat at home?
Depends: How old is your daughter? How long has she had a fever and how high? If your daughter is older than 3 months and fever has been less than 2 days and if pt is not in any distress then you can monitor at home for now. Based on the symptoms described this is most likely a viral URI causing laryngitis. If pt's fever > 101 and persisting for > 48 hrs and pt coughing a lot see the doctor soon ...Read moreSee 2 more doctor answers
My 18 month old has a rash with runny nose. I have given him benadryl, (diphenhydramine) what could it be and should I take him to the doctor? He also has diarrhea.
Viral infection?: Good morning, rash, runny nose, and diarrhea are usually caused by a viral infection at this age. Most of these infections are self-limited and should get better with adjusting food - fluids such as pedialyte. Watch for any sign of dehydration such as dry tongue and sick-look. If the child looks, it needs to be seen by a doctor. Rash usually does not require any treatment. ...Read more
My infant is congested coughing and has RSV should I get a vaporizer or humidifier? What is the difference
Vapor vs humidity: A humidifier (fan+filter+water) basically returns moisture to the air after the heating system extracts it. Homes up north have it plumbed into their furnace. In texas, less cold means we may need a separate humidifier.A good humidity range is 35-45% while dry heat can drop it below 20% and aggravate a kids cough. I have humidifiers in my office and home with gauges to monitor the level. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
My daughter(age11) has had a stuffed nose for a week. She can breath through one nose hole but not the other. What should I do?
My 3 week old baby has a congested nose and cough. His doctor only prescribed nasal drops but nothing for the cough. What can I give him?
Nasal wash: At 7 weeks the primary cause of congestion is the environment. House dust, fragrance, perfumes, detergent or cleaning products all leave scents that may not bother you but irritate a babies nose. A good nasal clean out with saline can remove much of this irritant load, but removing the offending irritants from babies life helps more in the long run.Air particle filters can also help. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
