Should I wear compression stockings after having cellulitis on my leg?

Should I wear compression stockings after having cellulitis on my leg?

OK after resolution: Compression stocking is useful to help reduce edema (swelling) of the legs. However, if you have active cellulitis (infection of the skin), the pressure from compression stocking may cause further inflammation. Instead, during an active infection, I generally recommend leg elevation to reduce swelling. Once the infection is resolved, then you can resume using you're compression stocking. ...Read more

It can be caused by many things including sunburn (radiation), trauma (sprained ankle) or poor vein circulation (stasis dermatitis). It need not be caused by bacteria. If you have repeated episodes of this, get to a wound care or vascular specialist, the diagnoses you have is wrong. ...Read more

Should I wear compression stockings at night?

You can: If you have a venous ulcer, then wearing a low compression stocking at night is often recommended. Otherwise, there is probably no need. It is important to remember that the compression you should use at night (15-20 mm hg) isn't adequate for when you you are up and walking around. Then you probably need 30-40 mm hg. ...Read more

Post DVT compression stockings do I need to wear 24 hrs?

Controversial: The role of compression stockings is to help to squeeze the calf veins to improve the venous return of blood to the heart and prevent venous stasis. When ambulating, the calf muscle pump does this. When recumbent, the calf muscle pump is not working. I, therefore, feel that compression hose should be worn while sleeping to improve the venous return. A lesser compression could be used at night. ...Read more

If I wear compression stockings only at night can it sill help my varicose veins? What are a good least cumbersome kind to wear?

If I wear compression stockings only at night can it sill help my varicose veins? What are a good least cumbersome kind to wear?

Not really: At night I assume you are sleeping. The fact you would be in bed and not standing would negate the need for the compression as no gravity there.....you need the compressn hoosiery when standing to counteract gravity. Of course if you work at night and are not sleeping then that would be good time to wear them. ...Read more

How long after dvt should I wear 30-40 compression stockings after dvt and not on coumadin (warfarin) almost 2 yrs past clot?

How long after dvt should I wear 30-40 compression stockings after dvt and not on coumadin (warfarin) almost 2 yrs past clot?

It depends: Do you know the status of your deep venous system? After a DVT there may be damage such as obstruction or reflux. If this is the case you are at risk for skin changes developing in your legs. These can result in ulceration.
You should be evaluated by a vascular surgeon. Long term compression may be advisable for you. Good luck.

Can I wear compression stockings to reduce the swelling in my leg and ankle? I have a simple fracture of the left lower fibula

Probably: If it is truly an isolated fibula fracture, then wearing a compression stocking can be helpful to reduce swelling, as can the application of ice and elevation of the ankle above the level of the heart. You would want to check with your doctor and make sure it is an isolated fibula fracture rather than an unstable ankle injury before doing so. Thank you for the question. ...Read more
