Shortness of breath: Shortness of breath, which persists for 30 minutes is a symptom of cardiac exertion. If you are in good condition and you cannot get your heart rate above 132 with this presentation, I advise that you discontinue weight lifting until you have had a full cardiac evaluation. Shortness of breath with minimal exertion activities, not a problem when exercising. Suffer from migraines and GERD. Early 20's and otherwise healthy.

Graduated exertion: If shortness of breath is due to a pathologic process (aka "disease"), it progressively worsens with increasing severity of exercise. If I understand you, you become breathless early on but, when you exercise more, it gets better or at least doesn't interfere (?) - to me, that suggests a "warm-up" phenomenon. Systolic blood: pressure should rise with exertion and 40 mmHg is not excessive. Greatly elevated BP can cause SOB. Hypertensive heart disease can also cause this. Beta blockers might also contribute to SOB. SOB bothers me.: When i say sob, i'm not referring to you or pcp. Rather the shortness of breath. All the others symptoms certainly could be viral illness, and should entirely resolve within three weeks. However, shortness of breath on exertion could be a problem if it was more than mild, which could be part of the fatigue and weakness that viral infection causes.
