Shortness Of Breath After Bronchitis
I'm 54 weight 168 and 5 ft 7. I recently started having shortness of breath after short exercising, very short. What should I be concerned with.?
Not necessarily...: Acute bronchitis is caused by an infection of the airways and you would have symptoms of infection. Chronic bronchitis is a form of COPD and is usually due to cigarette smoking. This, too, would have other symptoms and not just decreased exercise tolerance. See your doctor to evaluate your decreased exercise tolerance, if present. ...Read more
Depends...: If you have acute bronchitis, the cough may be due to bronchospasm, especially if it increases as your other symptoms improve. See your doctor because this can be treated with inhalers. If you have chronic bronchitis, you need to see your doctor so your treatment can be adjusted. If you smoke, you need to quit today and your doctor can help with this as well. ...Read more
I have bronchitis and anxiety, I can't really tell the shortness of breath apart. Anything that sets the two apart?
It doesn't matter: The effects of shortness of breath are the same - regardless of the cause - the feelings are too. If you have bronchitis (diagnosed) this is probably the cause now. After the bronchitis is gone, any remaining might be anxiety. It won't matter. Both conditions are unpleasant. Both are treatable. Get better in both ways and breathe easy. CBT helps w/ anxiety. Antibiotics for bronchitis. Best! ...Read more

Flu; talk to doctor: U should not return to work until u r absolutely free of symptoms, as their is a risk of transmitting bronchitis to ur students. I assume u were tested for the flu; most bronchitis is viral in origin, & most viruses have no effective treatment. Most viruses run their course in 7 to 14 days. All u can do is hydrate, rest, get the influenza vaccine, & wait. Good luck, thanx for asking HealthTap! ...Read more

Doctor can examine: An asthma patient may need more doses of asthma medication or a second medication, or just fine-tuning of her asthma meds. If the doctor feels there is bronchitis or pneumonia, an antibiotic may be needed. Sometimes a chest x-ray is done to see if there is something unusual going on, but a chest x-ray is usually not needed in simpler cases of asthma. ...Read more

Get treated: You need to get checked out and treated. Monitor closely: If your dr is confident of the diagnosis of bronchitis (no pulmonary emboli or asthma/ copd, pneumonia)the "shortness of breath" should improve gradually while the cough is disappearing. It may take days or weeks, seldom 1 month or more. Shortness of breath should be monitored closely to make sure there is no serious condition causing the difficulty breathing. ...Read more
Pneumonia, bronchitis or flu shortness of breath. Coughing, wheezing, chills, fever, bodyaches, headache
Hello.: Hello. Can not distinguish between these three diagnoses based on this information. You will need a medical history, a physical examination to include auscultation of your lungs and you might need a chest xray as well. They will probably check your blood oxygen level and may also do some lab tests. Would play it safe and get evaluated at the emergency room, as there is a possibility that you could have pneumonia. Hope you feel better soon. ...Read more

Or pneumonia?: Do you have a cool mist humidifier? Fill it with one bottle of hydrogen peroxide, and two bottles of water. That will give you a 1% aerosolized mist of hydrogen peroxide. The peroxide kills the bugs on contact (virus or bacteria) as you breath in the mist, and breaks down into water and oxygen. You should feel better in a day or two. ...Read more

Cough/Sputum: If you have had a recent upper respiratory infection (past 3 months) and the cough/mucous started afterwards, this could be "post-infectious cough" that resembles cough-variant asthma. The latter is possible too. Further history taking is necessary to help direct you- I will be happy to see you in an online appointment or you could see your PCP as well. ...Read more
