Short Stubby Fingers
Two of my fingers got crazy suddleny... They started to feel like an short-circuit everytime I bend or rotate them... What seems to be the problem?
Evolution: It is hard to say genetically why the ones with shorter pinkies survived and not the other way around. But going back to species before us, it was that way. Just looking at my hand, I 'd rather have it that way and not the other way as the prehensile activity looks better and it would just look weird, don't you think? ...Read more

For specific things: Such as congenitally short fingers there are time when function is imporvoed by lengthening a digit but this is a rare occurrence. For a "normal functioning hand" with all the digits there is no cosmetic way that would successfully lengthen fingers. When I grip an object (eg: bike handlebars) for a short time, my fingers seem to seize up and are painful when I try to release the object. Why?

Dystrophic types have autosomal dominant inheritance, so one of your parents would have it. Non-dystrophic types are from point mutations on specific genes. A neurologist & geneticist can determine if you have either type. Many are annoying, but not disabling. ...Read more

Supposing you have short little toes rather than long finger like toes, does that decrease your chance for hammer toe?
I am not sure: The length of the digit matters. If there is an imbalance in muscle power I would think even short length of digit would potentially hammer. Having said that, with a longer lever arm, you do have more oppurtunity for a toe to hammer. I would give you if two feet with same muscle power the longer toe might hammer first. ...Read more

Nothing at 50: At your age there are no surgical interventions that would be successful in reconstruction.
