Short Sightedness (Overview)

Short-sightedness is a symptom in which a person is nearsighted (myopia), and can see clearly only things that are close to him. Objects farther away are blurry. Nearsightedness is correctable with glasses, contact lenses, or laser surgery. Short-sightedness can also refer to a personality trait (a person who does not see the long-term effects of actions or events) that has nothing to do with myopia.

What causes short sightedness?

What causes short sightedness?

Genetics+environment: Myopia, in a simple model, depends on refractive index of cornea-tear film, lens, length of eye. So if any of these are altered so that the image focuses in front of the retina (steep k, longer eye, higher refractive lens index, etc.), then you become short sighted. The anatomy of the eye is inherited and a lot of near work can affect it. ...Read more

Can myopia (short sightedness ) treated naturally without surgery or glasses? I heard that sunlight could help

Can myopia (short sightedness ) treated naturally without surgery or glasses? I heard that sunlight could help

No: Sunlight will do nothing for myopia. This condition is due to an abnormal shape of the eye that results in refractive error (think of a lens directing sunlight to a specific point). It is a very common occurrence and by itself, results in no significant health issues. But to correct this so you can see in focus, you need contacts, glasses, or refractive surgery (e.g. Lasik). ...Read more

I hav short sightedness with power almost 600&700, how can I prevent it from further rising n to lower the power? Wat to do n what to eat?

No natural solution: This is often hereditary and there is no way to prevent but some ways to correct it. For example, once the nearsightedness has stabilized, you may consider lasik. However even then, you may still at risk for retinal detachment and i urge you to get regular ophthalmologic exam in case that happens. Those purported eye training programs are bogus. ...Read more
