Can follow: Barrett's isn't always distinguishable from erosions from stomach acid or non-barrett gastric metaplasia. Definitions of barrett's vary from country to country. Or the biopsy forceps may miss and take a piece of normal mucosa. Ask whether junior needs to be 'scoped again.

Is barretts esophagus considered an inflamatory condition? Would having barrets with no displasia make CRP level high?

Is barretts esophagus considered an inflamatory condition? Would having barrets with no displasia make CRP level high?

Probably not: This pathologist believes that people pay way too much attention to crp. It's often up for no reason, and of course it's a marker for atherosclerosis along with dozens of others. Neither sensitive nor specific for anything, it's not worth troubling yourself over.

I was told I had barretts esophagus and now its cancer. What is treatment?

Depends on stage: For stage i-iia esophageal cancer, upfront therapy is surgery or esophagectomy. For stage iib or iii therapy is either chemoradiation followed by surgery or chemoradiation alone. For stage iv, treatment is chemotherapy +/- irradiation.

I have daily acid reflux, NEG h pylori. MD said no concern. What's best treatment to prevent ulcers, stricture and barrets esophagus? Herbs? Diet?

Acid reflux (GERD): One of the best ways to control this is the use of a class of drugs known as H2 blockers. There are several and they are readily available, some OTC. Your doctor can prescribe these for you as well. Good luck.

What kind of diet or foods should you eat with barrets esophagus?

What kind of diet or foods should you eat with barrets esophagus?

Anti reflux diet: If you believe that barrett's is caused by acid reflux changing the lining of the esophagus, then likely the best diet to be on is a an anti reflux diet - same that you would be on if you had chronic heartburn symptoms.

How often should I have endoscopy with barrets esophagus?

How often should I have endoscopy with barrets esophagus?

Barrett's esophagus: Surveillance for barrett's esophagus depended on the severity of the disease. If you have no dysplasia, repeat egd in 3 years. If you have low grade dysplasia, repeat egd in 6 months (if this egd is normal, repeat egd yearly). If you have high grade dysplasia, please discuss with your GI physician for options. You need to discuss this in details and not feasible to do here.

What is the diffrence between mild anteral gastiris and barrets esophagus

Different organs: Gastritis of the antrum of the stomach refers to inflammation of the distal part of the stomach, called the antrum. Barrett's esophagus is a precancerous change to the lining of the distal esophagus. The two have nothing in common. Good luck!

How long does take for untreated GERD to cause barrets esophagus?

Chemical burn: Reflux, chemically burns the lining mucosa of the esophagus.......which is not acid resistant. Recurrent and prolonged process changes this epithelium to abnormal.....Barret's

Had endoscopy, have errosive esophagus. I'm afraid I have barrets? Doctor didn't mention it to me, but took biopsy. I'm 23.do I have barret in ur opi

Unclear: Without seeing your endoscopy and biopsy report, I can't determine this. You could ask your doctor directly and see what he/she says. It sounds like the biopsy report is not back but active esophagitis can make it harder to determine if you have Barrett's.

Can you have lap band surgery with Barrets esophagus??????

Lap Band Surgery: That is a question best left to the surgeon who would be preforming the surgery. As esophageal strictures to my understanding are one of the complications of lap band, I would suspect this is a relative contraindication.

If you have treated/untreated GERD how long does it take to turn into barrets esophagus? Years? Months? Is it deadly?

If you have treated/untreated GERD how long does it take to turn into barrets esophagus? Years? Months? Is it deadly?

Years: It probably take years, but it is hard to tell. Get evaluated and see a professional to get treated.

How long does errosive esophagitus take to form into Barrets esophagus? How long does does it usually take for you to develop barrets with gerd?

How long does errosive esophagitus take to form into Barrets esophagus? How long does does it usually take for you to develop barrets with gerd?

It is uncommon: Barrets esophagus is a rare complication of chronic GERD (Not associated with erosive esophagitis unless it is chronic and ongoing for many years.).You are advised to have Upper Endoscopy (EGD) if you have had symptoms of GERD for more than 20 years. Right now you are too young to worry about it. Just take regular antacids, preferably PPI drugs which are more effective than H2 blockers.

Is it ok to drink decaf coffee with Barrets esophagus? I know I shouldn't drink caffeine. But I think there is still a small amount in decaf?

Is it ok to drink decaf coffee with Barrets esophagus? I know I shouldn't drink caffeine. But I think there is still a small amount in decaf?

No harm: If you can tolerate coffee, it is okay. Do not drink it too hot. For good health - Have a diet rich in fresh vegetables, fruits, whole grains, low fat milk and milk products, nuts, beans, legumes, lentils and small amounts of lean meats. Avoid saturated fats. Exercise at least 150 minutes/week and increase the intensity of exercise gradually. Do not use tobacco, alcohol, weed or street drugs in any form. Practice safe sex.

Does errosive esophagus mean I have barrets esophagus? My doctor who did endoscopy didn't mention I did just told me to take ppi for 3.months then eud

Likely not at 23 yo: Barrett's epithelium replaces the part of your esophagus that is damaged by reflux. Yearly risk of barrett's tissue turning into cancer is low, but roughly 65x likelier than in patients without barrett's. Prevention & early detection is key, & treatment of gerd is important in patients predisposed by longstanding reflux. Dysplasia in barrett's needs close follow-up, can be endoscopically destroyed

Barrets esophagus. Doc said he thinks pathologist over read b/c he sees no signs of it... Can it be reversed with nexium (esomeprazole)? He gave me 40mg 2xday

Barrets esophagus. Doc said he thinks pathologist over read b/c he sees no signs of it... Can it be reversed with nexium (esomeprazole)? He gave me 40mg 2xday

Possibly: High dose PPI's can prevent progression of Barrett's Esophagus to Cancer, and possibly reverse abnormal cellular changes in esophageal tissue. It is also possible that your GI I correct that Path over-read biopsy.

Hello I had h pylori in 2003 was treated and have bn on and off gerd meds ever since then in 2008 was diagnosed with barrets esophagus but a second opinion wad told I don't have it. I bn scoped every year since then til 2013 and I now have esophagus spasms

Esophageal spasms: Esophageal spasms can be a sign that your GERD might not be under good enough control. You may need a longer-term therapy to get them under control, even if you do not have heartburn. I would speak with your doctor about adjusting your medications for now. Good luck.

I have had Barrets esophagus for several years. I have been prescribed Nexium (esomeprazole) which has helped, but I still cough alot with 'tickle in my throat'?

Alternate Voice: I am going to speak frankly. Why isn't your question: How do I fix my GERD? Eight years without finding the cause and eliminating it from your life is a very long time to just be treating the symptoms of GERD. Don't you think?
