Go see your doc: One of the things you have to rule out is if he is having symptoms consistent with cervical radiculopathy/radiculitis. This is an irritation of the nerves arising from the neck which may be due to a leaking disc or stenosis. Muscle pain: Brandon, seems like you have a "pulled muscle" which can cause sharp pain when used (turning your head). At your age, it should recover completely. Use heat (like in a hot shower) and stretch. Find rhomboid muscle stretch on youtube or some site and you will be fine. Options: This could be muscle spasm, neck problem, shoulder problem, or even a spinal disc pushing in a nerve when you lift heavy things.
