Intertrigo: The peri-rectal area is a common area for a rash known as intertrigo. This starts off as an irritation and then secondarily becomes colonized by yeast usually. Avoid using wet wipes to wipe the area. It can be treated with a combination of topical steroid and topical anti-yeast creams and often takes a few weeks to resolve. Absolutely: No idea. A neurologist could get a nerve conduction study with or without an electromyogram. You are too young to have carpal tunnel syndrome. Which fingers by the way. Is it the 5th (pinkie) with half the 4th? That would be easy as the ulnar nerve may be the reason. ...Read more

I have a sharp shooting pain in the top/middle of my back on the left hand side. I have had it for about a week, is it anything serious?

Probably not: Pretty vague symptoms - difficult to know for sure what is wrong. Minor things like an inflamed muscle or joint can cause temporary sharp pain. Given your reported age and assuming no other symptoms, this may resolve on its own or maybe with anti-inflammatory meds. If it doesn't go away, see your doctor who can do a thorough history & physical and make sure it's nothing serious. Good luck! ...Read more

Dx w Left breast cancer. Had 10/30 radiation tx after lumpectomy with slb (0/3). Having shooting pain in L arm w/numb hand & shoulder pain. Normal?

Probably ulnar nerve: This is the distribution of the ulnar N which is commonly trapped at the elbow in the cubital tunnel, or less commonly at the wrist, guyon's canal. Ulnar nerve: This might be the answer:

The pinky is supplied by the ulnar nerve, which has to pass through a narrow region in the inner elbow. When there is irritation or narrowing here, people may have pain or tingling or numbness in their pinky finger. Sometimes this occurs more often when leaning bent elbows on a table. ...Read more

Evaluate Neck: If you are not improving have your doctor order a cervical spine mri. Many times a herniated disc in the neck can cause arm pain especially if you have not improved with the medications and physical therapy. If it is a herniated disc you may need evaluation from a spine specialist to determine what other options might be needed (injections, surgery, etc) to help reduce pain. ...Read more
