Bruising & swelling of the shin are particularly noticeable since there's so little "padding" between the shin bone and the skin. Spasm is still there: If you're having sharp pains in the morning, it depends where you're having those pains that will determine what the problem is. Best if you go see your doctor, so they can do a physical examination of your affected leg.
