Left shoulder pain increasing for 5 days. Sharp pain. 8/10. Hurts to lay or turn head .Can move. Neck, shoulder blade & arm hurt. What should I do?

Muscular Pain?: Hi, your recent onset of symptoms and your age suggest that at this point the most likely diagnosis is that you have a shoulder/upper back/neck strain. You don't describe radicular symptoms that would suggest a neurologic etiology. Initial treatment after an H&P and imaging usually starts with NSAIDs and maybe a muscle relaxer and also some therapy exercises to see if your symptoms will get better ...Read more

Sharp pain in my left shoulder blade. Neck pain radiates behind my ear. Shoulder pain and soreness. And little arm soreness as well. Pinched nerve?

Discuss with MD: You have a lot going on for your age, please discuss this with your doctor, you may warrant some further testing. This is not a good forum for this question as we can not diagnose "pinched nerve" without examination and testing. Sharp, stabbing, knife-like-pain in my back under my left shoulder blade. Bending backwards, twisting left, sneezing increase pain. Could it be a rib?

YES!: An out of place rib can definitely cause pain like this. Go online and buy a MA Roller. About $30? It will adjust your spine and ribs using your bodies weight. It's wooden and can be quite painful over the area that's a problem but it will help. ...Read more

Posterior rib "out": 1) posterior rib "out". I can't really explain it anatomically, but the ribs can "go out" and a chiropractic adjustment can help tremendously. Woke up with Sharp stabbing pain on left shoulder gets bad when I breath in! But as soon as I got up from bed it stopped ?!

Other possible causes include a blood clot in the lung, air getting to the space around the lung (pneumothorax), pneumonia/bronchitis, anxiety, and heart problems (again your age makes it less likely). If it comes back you need to be seen by a doctor. ...Read more
