What can I do about sharp, stabbing pain in arch of foot?

Have it evaluated: Your pain could due to trauma (fracture, sprain, arthritis, inflammation), infection, metabolic conditions (gout), poor circulation, musculoskeletal or biomechanical abnormality and different neurologic conditions (neuropathy). A thorough history and physical exam and possibly some laboratory and radiology exams are needed to determine the exact cause. The treatment varies depending on the cause.

Need some advice. I have sharp, stabbing pain in arch of foot?

Black and blue?: Is pain in a specific spot or in a general area? Are you a runner? Did you have a trauma? Is it on the outside or underside of your arch? Here is a reference that might help (note plantar fasciitis and stress fracture)http://www. Mayoclinic. Org/symptoms/foot-pain/basics/causes/sym-20050792.

While playing basketball, I jumped and landed on what seemed like a hard rock. I experienced a sharp stabbing pain on the arch area of my foot. I have?

Have an exam: It may be a bruise that will hurt till it heals or there may have been more tissue damage. An exam should lead to answers and steps toward relief. Hope it feels better soon.

My left foot toes have sharp stabbing pain and they occur every five minutes, but only for a few seconds, what may be the cause?

Painful left toes: How long have you had these symptoms? Any h/o diabetes, trauma to your left lower limb, back symptoms associated with toes pain? A test, "EMG & NCS" looks at how your nerves and muscles of your left leg function from the spine to the toes. This non invasive test can usually provide more insight into why you have the localized nerve type symptoms. Good tx (not narcs) exists for this type of pain.

Mothers foot keeps hurting. Its sharp stabbing pain coming & going in her right foot. Bp was normal but pulse high. Doesn't appear swollen. What is up?

Impossible to say: There are numerous causes of foot pain and I would urge consultation with a podiatrist. The lack of redness and swelling rules out issues such as gout.

Right leg (on rare occasions) sharp stabbing pain initiating to the rear of thigh radiating or transmitting to the foot.

Right leg (on rare occasions) sharp stabbing pain initiating to the rear of thigh radiating or transmitting to the foot.

Sciatica: Sounds like this could be a sign of sciatica. Sciatica refers to pain that radiates along the path of the sciatic nerve which branches from your lower back through your hips and buttocks and down each leg. Typically, sciatica affects only one side of your body. This could be a sign you have a herniated disk or spinal anomalies which may require physical therapy and a spine physician eval.

Lumbar radiculopathy: Is a possible diagnosis, and needs to be confirmed by a physical examination and imaging. See your doctor for an evaluation. A nerve might be compressed due to degenerative changes of the spine.

Swelling on top of left foot and sharp stabbing pain between pinkie toe and toe next to pinkie tightness and swelling around ankle no feeling in rt lg?

You have multiple: Issues going on hat may not be related at all and you really should go to he doctor to be evaluated. The pinky toe issue could be an interdigital corn or fungus, no feeling in your right leg only sounds like you may have a nerve impingement somewhere, pain to the top of the foot would need a clinical exam and possible xrays as hat is too broad a complaint.

It is a little: Difficult understanding what you are asking....slowly weaning your foot off of what? Where is your pain? What happens when you wear an arch? And when you don't?

Kidney stone?: Unless it's a muscular pain, that kind of scenario would make me think of a kidney stone. You may be passing a kidney stone. They can cause exquisite pain.

Some possibilities: Depends on the location. Most commonly symptoms like this are due to a morton's neuroma, a small ball of fibrous tissue around nerves that forms sometimes as a result of trauma. Foot pain can also result from plantar fasciitis, but it is more commonly a dull ache in the arch of the foot. Please see your podiatrist for a more definitive diagnosis.

I had foot surgery 3 days ago and now experiencing extreme constant stabbing pain. I'm taking Vicodin but isn't helping. Is Something wrong?

Be seen: This is not terribly unusual as swelling usually reaches a peak about 72 hours after surgery, so the third day can be the worst. Because you describe your pain as being extreme despite the use of narcotics, I would certainly let your surgeon know. Your dressing should be changed and your incision and foot checked just to make sure you are not having a complication.
