I have sharp shooting pain behind my knee, popliteal area. It occurs when I try to straighten my leg, or suspend my leg in the air, flexed or not.

Knee pain: This sounds like chondromalaciae patella. (softening of cartilage behind kneecap). A month of physical therapy with ultrasound and therapeutic exercises can diminish pain and restore pain-free motion. If the pain persists then MRI could be necessary to determine if you have a meniscus or cruciate ligament injury. (which could be the culprit of the kneecap pain). Good luck.

Sharp shooting pain behind right knee & calf when I walk started yesterday & Occasional first 3 toes go numb. What could be wrong? Home relief?

Sharp shooting pain behind right knee & calf when I walk started yesterday & Occasional first 3 toes go numb. What could be wrong? Home relief?

Calf pain: Pain behind the knee on walking, if not due to a strain, could be due to an inflammed muscle or tendon. Less likely would be a vein inflammation (phlebitis) or cyst. Numbness in the toes could be from a pinched nerve. See an orthopedic surgeon if symptoms persist or worsen. Cold or heat applications, liniment and, if you can take them, NSAIDS like ibuprofen rMay help.

Lower back pain is causing shooting pain referred leg and hip and knee pain. What can I do for relief?

See details: Your description suggests you have sciatica which is due to a nerve root compression in your back. Try rest, heat to the area and aleve (naproxen). If the problem persists, you need to see a doctor.

I have arthritis in my knee. Along with the knee pain I have shooting pain down my leg towards the ankle. Can arthritis cause pain down the leg?

I have arthritis in my knee. Along with the knee pain I have shooting pain down my leg towards the ankle. Can arthritis cause pain down the leg?

Not commonly: You maybe having symptoms from your lumbar spine. At age 30, you are on average too young to develop significant arthritis in your knee. There is a chance your knee pain and leg pain is coming from your back. Go see an orthopaedic surgeon or spinal specialist.

Getting a sharp shooting pain in the outside of my right knee, it just appears randomly then goes after around 25 minutes, I don't know what it is.

Need to be checked: Not enough information to advice you what it could be. But having said that it needs to be evaluated with comprehensive history and physical exam and imaging like x-rays and/or MRI. Only than we will know the cause of your pain and appropriate treatment.

I have shooting pain in my left leg behind knee. What can I do to ease the pain?

I have shooting pain in my left leg behind knee. What can I do to ease the pain?

See doctor: Shooting pain in the leg is sometimes referred to as sciatica. It may be caused by inflammation of one of the spinal nerves. Without treatment, the pain can be quite debilitating. There are many possible treatment options including medications, pt, and injections. The option I have found to be most helpful is injection of local anesthetic and steroid directly onto the inflamed nerve.

I am getting a shooting pain in my right knee only when kneeling on it, it's very sharp and painfull, otherwise my knee is fine. What is the cause?

I am getting a shooting pain in my right knee only when kneeling on it, it's very sharp and painfull, otherwise my knee is fine. What is the cause?

Probably bursitis: Knee pain especially on kneeling is suggestive of bursitis most likely prepatellar bursitis. There are numerous fluid filled sacs on the knee joint that help lubricate it. Sometimes they get inflamed. Rest and and applying ice can help. A consultation with a physician may be warranted to do further work up such as ordering x-rays to rule out possible fracture.

When I lay on my back and lift my left leg up straight not bending my knee I get sharp shooting pain in my lower back. I also can't stand straight up.

Back sprain: The pain on straight leg raising is indicative of either ligament tears and laxity in the lumbar spine or sacroiliac problems with weak ligaments. It might also involve an inflammation of a lumbar disc and nerve root irritation. Visit www. Proloshot. Com or www. Aaomed. Org to find a doctor who does prolotherapy as the ideal treatment to rectify this problem.

I have a sharp shooting pain going from my right hip to my right knee what could it be should I be worried or see a doctor?

I have a sharp shooting pain going from my right hip to my right knee what could it be should I be worried or see a doctor?

See Your Doctor: Most likely no need to worry, but you should see your doctor about diagnosing it and getting it treated, so that you don't have the pain. It may be due to the iliotibial band, in which case therapy will help resolve and prevent the issue.
