Spine Pain Options: This pain in the distribution as you suggested is the result of an irritated nerve or facet joints or other injury typically in the lumbar spine (low back) which are caused by herniated disks, spinal stenosis or degenerative disc disease, etc requiring further evaluation by a spine specialist and may be candidate for facet injections/radiofrequency ablation and epidural steroid injection. Low back pain. 8 mos post laminectomy. Need good lower back strengthening exercises. Pain dr. Claims says its bio mech changes in facets post surgery?

Possibly: There is nothing about a laminectomy that should precipitate facet pain/arthritis. But patietns with spinal stenosis who require laminectomy often have multiple back issues including facet arthritis. There could be scarring after surgery causing some pain but typically you would have some leg pain as well. After completing pt and core exercises, facet pain can easily be tested with an injeciton. Had l spine xray and CT scan for kidney stones, all clear. Low back pain. Would l spine xray have shown lower back tumor? No stones, uti, etc.

No: An x-ray of the lumbar spine would predominantly show only bone. In general, an x-ray is not a very sensitive test to detect the specific cause of back pain in most patients. Consider requesting an MRI which shows the bone, but also shows the nerves, discs, and other soft tissues of the back and is therefore much more sensitive than an x-ray. Read more

I am experiencing low back pain. The pain kind of shoots occasionally from both the sides of my back just above my bum. And it's not really sharp?

Beware of red flags: Most back pain is benign, generating from soft tissue like ligments, fascia, discs, joints etc. Typical treatments like exercise, PT, chiro are all appropriate.
"Red Flags" that indicate something more sinister may be going on include progressive, unrelenting back pain especially if it also occurs at night, is assoc w/ fevers, unexplained weight loss, or if you develop anything neurological. Read more

Sx:Low back pain, left sharp glute pain for 3 months. Worser in the morning or when sitting. Is this sciatica or some type of cancer?

Neither: At age 23, neither is likely. Sciatica is due to compression of nerve in low back, usually causes pain down the leg. It's rare at your age. Injury to coccyx can cause your symptom, as can muscle and joint injury there. For previously undiagnosed cancer to present in this fashion in a young man would likewise be VERY rare. Read more

I've been having really bad low back pain recently with sharp pain down back of left leg, specifically when bending over, lifting, or coughing.?

This is most: Consistent with a disc source of nerve compression or irritation although there can be other possibilities. The fact that you can increase the pain with bending & lifting & worsen the pain with coughing most likely to find a disc problem like a herniation or tear of the outer portion of the disc known as an annular tear. These can be treated non operatively 90% of the time. Start with your doctor Read more
