Sharp Pains In The Upper Abdomen
I have pain in my upper abdomen usually swelling pain, sharp pains in the upper left, and upper right quadrant of the abdomen, a congested type of pain in my lower right quadrant with bloating, also my sweat smells unusual. What might be wrong?

Gall bladder : curious what your appendix pathology was? Was it necrotic? Classically right upper quadrant pain is more typically gall bladder etiology. However, this is somewhat unusual for a young gal as yourself. Go for an eval with your physician to go through this history and have a physical exam. Have your doc look up the path report. Gastritis: Gastritis is an irritation of the stomach lining and is associated with abdominal pain and often nausea and vomiting. Symptoms can last a week. You are on PPI medication which reduces acid. However does not decrease reflux. This why symptoms at night. Bismuth or antacid at night may help. Reglan is an ant emetic, but reduces reflux and that may help too. ...Read more

Why the pain?: Usually, when the problem is the gallbladder, removing the gallbladder removes the pain. There are other causes of upper abdominal pain. I'm on Medrol (methylprednisolone) and am having sharp pains in my left upper abdomen. Can this med cause pancreatitis?
Gastritis/ulcer: High doses of steroid like Medrol (methylprednisolone) can cause gastritis and even stomach ulcer. Sometimes this can be prevented by taking a PPI type of drug (Prilosec etc) along with the steroid However you do need to contact your doctor immediately re. this problem.
