Unsure: Could be several things. If it is severe or persists more than several hours then you should be evaluated. Sorry but the list of possible causes is long. Excruciating?: If one has very uncomfortable tummy pain, and is normally in good health, plus is not pregnant, the possibilities include: appendicitis (usually r lower quadrant), diverticulitis, kidney stone (very painful), constipation (crampy), stomach flu, etc... Groin Strain: You may have pulled a groin muscle. It is less likely but also possible to have a hernia. A few other less common possibilities come to mind. Need more information and exam. OK to take OTC Tylenol or Advil with food prior to doctor visit for definitive diagnosis and treatment. Using the medication will make going for the doctor exam less painful. Timing: Gas cramps can occur at any time, may be associated with certain meals and improve with bowel movements.
Periods cramps occur at certain times of the month, followed by bleeding and improve with motrin/ibuprofen.
