Unusual: Perhaps a variant of Glossopharyngeal Neuralgia can cause only a rare pain. GN is a rare condition and would tend to reoccur on a daily basis and then subside for months or years. I don't think esophageal spasm would give isolated throat pain in absence of other swallowing symptoms. You should get an opinion from an ENT specialist to see if he/she can come up with a diagnosis. ...Read more

Throat pain: At your age it is likely due to postnasal drip. I would check for allergies . Have you had a recent cold? It could also be an infection if you have any other signs a symptoms. I would first try an over the counter antihistamine if that does not help see your primary care doctor and they will help sort out the issue. This is not likely a serious problem. Sudden sharp pain on 1 side of throat, then very painful to swallow for several minutes. Then pain w/swallow less, but continues for several hours.

Depends: It could be due to inflammation of pharynx. There could be injury from food- chicken o fish bone - it is unclear. If pain continues or have fever, see a doctor. Sudden pains can sometime be serious. See an ENT or primary care doctor. ...Read more
