See below: This sounds like it is probably an irritated nerve in your back that starts firing spontaneously when you are in certain positions. This would be my leading guess although you need a good physical exam and review of your back problems. This is usually a treatable condition, often with medications that decrease nerve irritability. ...Read more

About twice a day for about 5 seeconds at a time for the past week I have been getting this sharp pain right above my right calf. Any ideas?
I would ignore it!: Any sharp pain which only lasts 5-10 seconds can not be anything of concern. It is not anything serious. It is medically hard to explain such transient pains yet we all(normal folks) occasionally get such sharp pains and learn to ignore them. Only if it is getting progressively worse should you worry about it and seek medical attention. ...Read more
Every time I run 4or6 miles I get a sharp pain right below my calf with swelling after can you please tell me what is going on?
Tendinitis: What you're describing sounds like achilles tendonitis. This tendon attaches your calf muscle to your heal. Tendons are slow to heal. If you injured it but didn't give it time to heal up before your next run, it would likely "act up." Take a couple of days off then walk rather than run for a week or so, along with an Advil (ibuprofen) before running and calf stretches afterwards may help. ...Read more

Neuropathic Pain: Have you had a nerve conduction study or EMG? Was there a rash there several years ago? I'm wondering if this could possibly be a post-herpetic neuralgia. If there is a history of shingles on that body part, this could be the underlying cause. Consider seeing a Neurologist and/or a Pain specialist and maybe a podiatrist. The origin of the pain could be your foot. ...Read more

Calf pain: Pain behind the knee on walking, if not due to a strain, could be due to an inflammed muscle or tendon. Less likely would be a vein inflammation(phlebitis) or cyst. Numbness in the toes could be from a pinched nerve . See an orthopedic surgeon if symptoms persist or worsen. Be seen: There are a number of causes, most very simple. That being said, I would encourage you to be seen.
