Neck vs shoulder: Symptoms of hand pain are often are a result of pressure on a nerve. This can be originating in the neck or perhaps at the elbow. The pinky and ring finger are innervated by the ulnar nerve at the elbow and by a specific nerve root (c8) in the neck. Swelling in the hand is an unusual symptom. Prior to an evaluation pay close attention to when the swelling occurs and if it truly is in all fingers. ...Read more

See hand surgeon: not knowing your age ,and having more history will make it difficult to guess,or give an advise. is the lump on the flexer or the extenser side of your index finger,is it right at the joint,or between the joint. could be a cyst from the joint, like a ganglion cyst.or a nodule on the tendons,or could be the beginning of arthritis. the best way to go and see a hand surgeon. good luck. ...Read more

Nerve Injury: You may have pinched a a nerve in the hand or elbow called the ulnar nerve. This nerve supplies half the middle finger, ring finger and little finger. If it was sudden while you were doing something and went away no need for worry. If rapidly improving and NSAIDs can help. If it persists or is severe it could indicate damage to the nerve that should be evaluated. Very common, usually goes away. ...Read more

Get checked: The back of the head on the right and the left hand are not innervated by the same nerve, so it is unlikely that you have a pinched nerve. You should see a neurologist. Migraines can occasionally cause sensory symptoms such as hand numbness. ...Read more
