While chest pain can be attributed to indigestion, it is so important to go to the emergency room to have your cardiac status and labs assessed. So my heart rate stays pretty normal im always scared that every chest pain is my heart. Like tonight I keep getting a sharp pain center of my leftrib?

Chest pains: May be gastritis/ gallbladder. If concerned get an EKG will note significant abnormalities and an echo which shows the structure of the heart. Stress test will demonstrate if there is ischemia (usually in the young an echo and EKG is enough), Try ranitidine or prevecid as that can help for GERD/gastritis, test for H pylori. Caffieine, energy drinks, cocaine can affect the heart. F/u/ w/ doc

You should be seen: At a clinic or an ED. Any pain that is sharp and causing lightheadedness could be serious. You are entitled to be evaluated at any emergency department without insurance in order to determine whether you might be having an emergency. If you are having your period this could be a collapsed lung. If you have been injured, this could be a broken rib. Please get help.

What's causing me to feel constant sharp pain in the center of my chest but mostly to the left side? (Could it be mild heart attack) I hope not.

What's causing me to feel constant sharp pain in the center of my chest but mostly to the left side? (Could it be mild heart attack) I hope not.

Not likely: It is impossible to rule out as heart being involved in your symptoms, but the character of the pain is not suggestive of cardiac origin. A simple test to determine the origin would be to gently push over the involved area. If your pain is worsened, it is chest wall related, specifically sternocostal joints or chest muscles. If that is not the case you may need a follow up with your doc.

Costochondritis =: inflammation of the cartilage that connects ribs to the breastbone, or costosternal junction. Local swelling + pain that worsens as you describe + local tenderness = Tietze Syndrome. Causes = unrecognized injury, coughing, etc. Or unknown. Ibuprofen, avoiding painful actions Lidoderm patches & local steroid injections reduce pain, but they last 6 or > wks. & stop on their own. Painful, but benign
