I'm 20 years old and have been having random sessions of sharp chest pain, mostly during inhalation. What could be the the possible cause?
Multiple things: Could be a problem with skin, nerves, muscle, shoulder, lung, heart, or stomach. See your doctor for a more thorough history, physical exam and further evaluation. In lupus, what is likely cause of sharp chest pain I get sometimes during flares that worsens when I lean forward or inhale. Heart/lungs scans normal. ?
Unclear: Lupus pts can get pericarditis - sharp chest pain which is worse with deep breath but improved by leaning forward/worse lying on your back. Alternatively, lupus pts also get myalgia (muscle pain) and arthralgia (joint pain, including of the rib cage) which can be worse with deep breath but wouldn't change much with different position. Urgent care needed: Your symptoms could be serious. Sharp chest pain likely indicates an irritation of the inside of your chest/surface of the lung. While there are some benign causes, the shortness of breath associated with it means you need a chest x-ray at at minimum, TODAY. Prob NT Coronary Dis: At 17 unlikely Cor Dis leading Hrt Atak. Could be Gas in splenic flexure, could be Pericarditis. In pericar U feel better sit up than lie down. Both cause pain w breathng.
