Shaking Hand With Open Sore Hiv
Very Unlikely: Unless the person you are shaking hands with has either fresh bodily fluids or fresh blood on them, the chance of transmitting HIV by such casual contact is remote. However, if you have HIV and have an open bleeding wound on your hand, the reverse scenario may be more of an issue, where it is you that should be concerned about transmitting HIV to others, if they have wounds on their hands as well. ...Read more

Can you contract HSV 2, if your hand comes in contact with an infected penis. After using hand sanitizer & lightly washing hands, then touching vagina?
No risk, no worry: HSV2 is not so easy to transmit. Even sex with an infected partner, i.e. unprotected intercourse for several minutes, usually doesn't transmit it. No worries at all from this sort of contact. No STDs ever are transmitted by hand-genital contact, even if genital fluids are used for lubrication. ...Read more
Someone with known HSV1 but with no active cold sore spit in my face and lips accidently while talking. Any chance of infection?
Transmitted without: It is true that this virus is transmitted when no lesion is present. People who carry the virus are shedding it several times a month as determined by cultures. So most transmission occurs between attacks. While there are many more virus units in an active sore, people are reluctant to kiss that. It is possible, but very unlikely, to spread herpes the way you describe. You probably already have it ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer

Can you get genital herpes by touching inanimate objects someone with a cold sore has touched and then touching yourself after?
No. Herpes is direct: An inanimate object cannot safely harbor HSV from a cold sore and then allow someone else to touch that and become infected. Herpes is transmitted by direct human to human contact, or on occasion by infected fluids say on a shared straw. I don't think you have to worry about this case - it wasn't a real exposure. Good to always protect yourself however and practice good hygiene. ...Read moreSee 4 more doctor answers

Go to ER: If you are attributing the cold and weak hand to the accidental fork-stick in the wrist, then that would be from swelling impacting blood flow and the nerves to hand. This is a time-limited problem, which can result in permanent loss of function if present. Get it evaluated to be sure. ...Read more
