Wording issue: I would guess you are talking about x-rays, because interpretation is made by interpreting various shadows. The term you ? Is very non specific. There are normal organs like the thymus, that can produce an oddly dense feature that overlays the heart and lungs & might be interpreted this way. I have a "shadow" on my lung. Doctor ordered a CT scan, and it showed to test further, what does this mean?
Safety first: It just means that your doctor is doing his due diligence. The CT scan probably shows something in the lung that is not expected to be there. It could be an abnormal vessel, fluid, lymph nodes, scarring or a mass. It depends on what further testing your doctor is requesting. Mum has cancer, of pelvic area, now a chest infection & blood clots in the lungs the X-ray showed a shadow on her lungs is it the infection or cancer?
Not sure: It could be multiplie things. Could be from blood clot causing infarction or pneumonia or cancer or atelectasis. Would follow or maybe a biopsy to prove what it is.
