A "shadow" on: ultrasound is not a specific finding and could mean almost anything. It may be normal, particularly if the CT showed no abnormality. What is the specific abnormality mentioned in the US report, if any? ...Read more

It lies below the diaphragm in the abdominal-pelvic region of the abdomen. It produces bile, an alkaline compound which aids in digestion via the emulsification of ...Read more

I had a ultra scan today and I was told that I have a shadow on my liver. What us this and can I die from this?

Need more testing: A "shadow" is an extremely non-specific term that could mean anything from something totally innocuous to a potentially serious condition. Further tests would be necessary for clarification. These options would include a CT scan or an MRI. Please check with your doctor. ...Read more

An X-ray showed a shadow over my liver and the bloods were high - I have lots of pain in that area going up to my right shoulder. What could it be?

The diaphragm: Liver or biliary tract problems can cause pressure, inflammation, and/or irritation of the diaphragm. This will cause pain in the shoulder. This should be followup up with more sophisticated imaging than a plain xray, like an MRI or ct scan. ...Read more

I had an abdomen scan last week.I have go for an MRI as shadows on the liver and fat around the liver and slightly enlarged gallblader. i am worried?

It is normal: to be concerned. There is not enough information for me to speculate about the 'shadows' on the liver, if you have a fatty liver it is not unusual for small areas of non-fatty liver to look abnormal on ultrasound, so hopefully that is all it is. ...Read more

During an echocardiogram they found a shadow on my cousins liver, she has low white blood cell count, and her sugar was high. What can all this mean?

Needs follow up: The liver can be imaged with ultrasound (as in the echocardiogram), ct and MRI and depending on the type lesion, there may be different advantages to using different types of imaging. Follow up is needed to assess if this lesion is benign or needs further assessment. Some lesions may require a biopsy to be examined by a pathologist for a diagnosis. ...Read more

What are the probability that liver shadows are tumours?

What are the probability that liver shadows are tumours?

It depends: Most healthy people have spots on their liver. These are usually benign (not cancerous) cysts called "hemangiomas", which are spaces filled with fluid. The radiologist who interprets the images will know if the spots are worrisome, and will then order a different test or a biopsy. If you have had cancer, spots in your liver could be signs of spread and need to be checked more thoroughly. ...Read more
