Elevated LFT: Yes, your alt is elevated. However, based on one time measurement, it is hard to tell whether it is a random elevation or it is a chronic liver problem. I usually repeat alt and ast (SGOT) within the next 6 months. If still elevated, then i recur to chronic viral hepatitis panel to rule out hep. B/c. Level of 41 is near normal, but that does not mean that your liver is normal since there are many different disorder affecting the liver that may not raise sgpt. I am having atorvastatin10 since 2007...Since then my sgpt increase.At present it is 68.2010 it was 34.How do I protest my liver.
Talk to prescriber: If your liver enzymes are going up on atorvastatin, most authorities would strongly consider discontinuing it. Other statin drugs may not have the same effect, and the most common strategy is to switch to another statin (like mevacor, crestor, pravachol) and follow the liver enzymes (just be SGOT as well as sgpt).
