My sgpt is 41 u/l so hows the status of my liver? What does that mean?

One of many tests: Sgpt/alt is one of the many markers of liver function. Level of 41 is near normal, but that does not mean that your liver is normal since there are many different disorder affecting the liver that may not raise sgpt. All lab results need to be interpreted in the clinical context and the doctor who ordered the tests is usually in the best position to do that. ...Read more

Does sgpt(alt)=78 means liver malfunction or some.Other related problems?

Elevated LFT: Yes, your alt is elevated. However, based on one time measurement, it is hard to tell whether it is a random elevation or it is a chronic liver problem. I usually repeat alt and ast (SGOT) within the next 6 months. If still elevated, then i recur to chronic viral hepatitis panel to rule out hep. B/c. If that is negative, I do other bloodwork and get a liver ultrasound. ...Read more

If you're ALT/SGPT liver test is 105 does that mean it's high or anything bad necessarily?

If you're ALT/SGPT liver test is 105 does that mean it's high or anything bad necessarily?

This is serious: Most folks run 20 or under and the reference range top is probably 40. Listen, friend. You'll have this repeated after two week off medication and alcohol, if appropriate. If it's still up, you'll get a workup for several deadly-if-missed, easy-enough-to treat illnesses (hep B/C, hemochromatosis, WIlson's, autimmunity). It may simply be your body's way of asking for more exercise. Best wishes. ...Read more

I am having atorvastatin10 since 2007...Since then my sgpt increase. At present it is 68.2010 it was 34.How do I protest my liver.

Talk to prescriber: If your liver enzymes are going up on atorvastatin, most authorities would strongly consider discontinuing it. Other statin drugs may not have the same effect, and the most common strategy is to switch to another statin (like mevacor, crestor, (rosuvastatin) pravachol) and follow the liver enzymes (just be SGOT as well as sgpt). Talk to your health care provider who is giving you the Lipitor about how to proceed. ...Read more

What's the medicine to normalize sgpt and shot enzime in the liver?

No one med.: These are elevated when the liver sustains injury or some other stimuli as it indicates disruption of the liver cells. Therefore if the process causing this is stopped, SGOT & SGPT go back down. So no one med does this. If hepatitis, vaccine and supportive care do it, if infection, like malaria, therapy like quinine, if cancer, surgery. It depends on your underlying illness/issue. ...Read more
