CBC test results: Elevated MCHC, elevated MCH, bottom of range for Haematocrit, everything else within normal ranges. What do these results mean?
Nothing: Your physician may want to repeat them. I trust you do not have spherocytosis or if you do, that you've been worked up. At most, a reticulocye count may be in order. Sometimes the machines can be a bit mis-calibrated. High MCHC is quite uncommon and if you feel well I wouldn't be troubled. Reference ranges are set so that a few percent of healthies fall outside on either end. ...Read more
Normal hemoglobin, lower than normal MCH and MCHC). Serum ferritin in low normal range(40). What could it mean?
Stop worrying: You may have a very mild thalassemia variant. Reference ranges are set so that a few percent of healthy folks fall outside on either end. Ask your physician whether you have "thal minor" -- simply so that you'll know in case you are thinking of marrying someone else with it. ...Read more
Depends . . .: If fasting, 60-99mg/dl is considered normal. 100-125mg/dl is impaired fasting and 125mg/dl or greater on two separate occasions defines diabetes. Random >200mg/dl plus symptoms also defines diabetes. Think of blood sugar like speedometer in car which varies all time depending upon road conditions. Average speed is akin to hemoglobin a1c which is average sugar over last 3 months, ideally <5.7%. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
Creatinine level is 1.3mg/dl (range:0.8-1.3)..bun/creat ratio normal, electrolytes all normal, uric acid normal, urinalysis all normal..
No: At your age, kidney function is usually starting to drop of. And/or you may simply be physically fit and decently muscled. When I was lifting weights daily, I ran 1.7-1.8. I see you have hepatitis C and cirrhosis. See if you can get into one of these new studies with the meds that usually cure it. Best wishes. ...Read more
Explanations for elevated bilirubin ? (indirect high, direct normal)...also normal hemoglobin, low platelets, other liver function tests normal
Need more info: About 2-3% of otherwise normal people have elevated bilirubin, usually less than 5.0 mg/dL. Gilbert's disease is a usual cause and it despite disease in the name, it does not adversely affect a person's health. If you have any symptoms, it would be prudent to see your doctor. Consult this site for more info. http://www.mayoclinic.org/diseases-conditions/gilberts-syndrome/basics/definition/CON-20024904 ...Read more

My serum lipase level was 70, normal lab value is 0-60. All other values within normal range. No symptoms. W/F, 51 yoa. Cause for concern?
Blood test report: homocysteine level high/ blood platelets low/ bilirubin high. What could be wrong?
Big picture please: As a lab doctor, this means nothing in isolation. I appreciate your caring & this is no familiar pattern. Is the person clinically healthy? How off are the values? Vegetarians and junk-fooders are equally at risk for high homocysteine as are folks with genetic disease. Bilirubin -- gilbert's? Platelets -- gin and tonic? This isn't something to discuss in a 400-character text thx 4 understanding. ...Read more
Healthy young female. Two blood tests(normal check-up). Liver test showed elevated total protein and globulin. Other parameters absolutely normal. Why?
My albumin, globulin values came slightly off in blood test.
Albumin: 5.1 gm/dl (normal 3.5-4.8)
globulin: 2.1 gm/dl (normal 2.5-3.2)
shd i worry?
Last month ast, ALT all normal, albumin, globulin, bilirubin not normal, this month albumin, bilirubin, globulin normal but AST and ALT very high.Possible?
Yes: This is not only possible but commonplace. I believe we've met. Cirrhosis is a chaotic system and labs fluctuate based on activity (damage / healing). We're not going to know for certain, but if we could talk to your liver, i'd bet he would tell you he's regenerated a huge number of cells which is why he's working better and has more total cells though still bearing injury. Be glad. ...Read more

Eosinophils 7, serum bilirubin direct.42 total.83.All other cbc/lft/kft/crp test within normal range. Do strenuous exercise, healthy otherwise.concern?
All good: All laboratory results need to be interpreted in the clinical context and the doctor who ordered the tests is usually in the best position to do that. Having said that, none of your result is a cause for concern. For good health - Have a diet rich in fresh vegetables, fruits, whole grains, milk and milk products, nuts, beans, legumes, lentils and small amounts of lean meats. Avoid saturated fats. Exercise at least 150 minutes/week and increase the intensity of exercise gradually. Do not use tobacco, alcohol, weed or street drugs in any form. Practice safe sex. ...Read more
