Sgpt Blood Test Normal Range
Hi! I just got the result of my sgpt blood test it was 163.95. Its quite high from a 44 normal lever. How do I lower my sgpt?
This is serious: Don't treat a lab value; this is a warning of likely serious illness. You'll be rechecked off alcohol ; medications; if still high, you'll be checked for hepatitis b and c, wilson's, hemochromatosis, autoimmune hepatitis and maybe a few others. If still up, you may be ultrasounded or biopsied. This would be a great time to get into serious physical fitness activities. Best wishes. ...Read more

If sgpt blood test is notmal that means I don't have any liver disfunction or any type of hepatitis infections? (hepatitis a, b, c clear)?
Liver function: Sgpt is a single enzyme marker of possible liver disease. The normal SGPT may or may not represent normal liver function. Hepatitis of any type may go through periods of inactivity where liver function is normal. When a virus that is a hepatitis virus, invades a liver cell, the cell dies and enzymes are released into the bloodstream. These enzymes including SGPT are then measur to evaluate potential liver problems. ...Read more
Hello Doctor, Had a routine blood test done, and the SGOT is 85 and SGPT is 47. Is this normal? I am 55 male
A bit high: You may get these repeated off alcohol and any med you don't really need. If they're still up, it's perhaps hepatitis B or C, hemochromatosis, WIlson's (less likely at your age) or autoimmunity (less likely). It may simply be your body's way of asking for more exercise, and/or a sign of prediabetes. Best wishes. ...Read more

Go see your doctor: When discussing lab tests, it's imperative to mention reference range since different labs use different methodologies to measure different chemicals, resulting in different reference ranges. What is a normal number in one might be an abnormal number in another. Given that you drink 3d/wk, if your SGOT & SGPT are high, then stop drinking & repeat your tests. If still elevated, then get further eva. ...Read more
Recently got my blood test report. 1. Ast (sgot)-65 (range:10-40 u/l) 2. Alt (sgpt)-71 (range:09-46 u/l) 3. Cholesterol-hdl (37) & ldl/hdl ratio>3.03 (avg. Risk 2.29-4.90) what could these be indicating?
Lab data: You have some form of hepatitis (irritation of liver cells) but the cause of this is unclear. Your lipid profile is incomplete but what you provided seems of no major concern. None of this is of substantial value without placing it into a clinical context and the only person who can do that is the doctor who ordered the testing. ...Read more

Blood test result - on a recent blood test result the component result for ALT (sgpt) was 66, which was listed as abnormal. What might this be?
Maybe "hepatitis": Hepatitis is defined as inflammation of liver cells, as is indicated by elevation in serum transaminases (ast and/or alt). Hepatitis can be caused by a variety of issues (infectious, ischemic, metabolic, toxic, infiltrative, alcohol-related, drugs, etc.). You liver enzymes are mild/moderately elevated and it is important to determine the cause and treat that. One common cause is drinking alcohol, if you drink, stop entirely and get tested again in three months. Viral infections, and some medications can also alter liver enzymes. What are sgot & sgpt & g-gt? My blood test shows that I have, sgot= 42, sgpt= 45, g-gt= 40, do I have to see a doctor or what should I do?
Near or at normal: Different labs differ in the lower and upper limits of normal for all three of these tests, but in most labs all three of these values would be normal, although the SGPT (actually now called alt) may be very slightly high. Who did the blood tests? Generally they have to be ordered by a doctor, and that doctor is the one you should be talking to. I would suggest repeating them in 2-3 months. A. ...Read more
I just had my blood test and it shows SGPT-hi 46.80, LDL-hi 161 and CHOLESTEROL-hi 244, im very worried now with the result. Are these dangerous level?
Not dangerous but: Require attention. SGPT is just above the upper limit of normal. LDL and Cholesterol are both higher than desirable. If you are even a little bit overweight, it would help to lose weight. Reduce your intake of saturated fats. Start exercising 30 minutes/day on 5 days/week. If that does not help, you should consult your doctor to see if medication is needed. ...Read more
Nonspecific,,,: These aren't really that high and there can be many reasons for this. The drugs you're taking could do it as can some alcohol. A viral infection like a cold might raise the levels this high as might other forms of inflammation. Your young age would likely rule out such things as end stage liver disease and there would be other symptoms, but if you're not sure, see your doctor for an exam. ...Read more

Wha???: Numbers, numbers, numbers. You need you know the reference ranges of the lab that did the tests. You need to know why the tests were done and how they relate to prior tests, if any. See your doctor: All laboratory results need to be interpreted in the clinical context and the doctor who ordered the tests is usually in the best position to do that. Having said that, your liver enzymes are elevated indicating liver cell injury. If you drink alcohol, stop entirely. If you take any medications, discuss those with your doctor.
