A bug or a feature?: Some women stop having periods on birth control. The first few times it happens you should do a pregnancy test. Can sex post pone a period when taking birth control? Even with protected sex? Why is it late?

Lots of reasons...: ...for a late period (and you didn't specify how many days late you may be). However, your question appears to seek reassurance that you're not pregnant. No birth control method is perfect, so please consider a home pregnancy test next. ...Read more

Breakthrough bleed: Unscheduled bleeding is a common side effect of any birth control method. It usually corrects itself in a few days or over a couple of cycles. If not then you will need to schedule a visit to discuss changing brands or changing methods and make sure nothing else is wrong. Other than being annoying for you it is not harmful. ...Read more

13 days late. Stopped birth control then had a lot of unprotected sex. No sign of period but 2 negative tests.?

Too early?: It either is too early or you're not pregnant. A home urine pregnancy test turns positive about 14 days after conception. So if you're less than that, the test will be negative. Test again in 1 week. Or you may have skipped an ovulation. You don't mention what contraceptive you stopped but with some of them it may take a few months for the cycle to get back to normal. ...Read more

Stopped taking birth control after 1 1/2 yrs - period is 2 days late. No unprotected sex. Having all symptoms of period. Is this normal?

Did my new period date changed since I got it 2 times last month when am I consider late I am not on birth control n have unprotected sex?

Go to the Doctor: I cannot understand why you are asking us dozens of questions. Having two periods in one month is not in any way normal. It does not mean the date of your cycle has changed. It means something is wrong with your hormones or your internal organs. You need to go, in person, for an examination and testing. ...Read more

I forgot to take my birth control this morning. Took it 6 hrs later. No sex today. I'm on my period. Do I have to worry or change my schedual?

Great question.....: First I applaud you for asking this question! Very responsible.
It depends a little on what pill you're on. If it has 20 mcg estrogen you really need to keep to a 2 hour window every day. If you're on a 30 mcg estrogen pill then you've got about a 15 hour window. Check your pill or ask your pharmacist which one you're on! If you have any concerns use condoms this month for back up. ...Read more

13 days late and still absolutely no signs of a period. I stopped birth control and had a lot of unprotected sex. But again negative test results.?

No ovulation?: It's possible that the egg release was late. If coming off certain types of birth control, like pills, it can take a few months for the egg release to get regular again. It's also possible that you're less than 14 days pregnant. A home urine test will turn positive about that time. If the egg release was late, that would be possible. Seek help if not regular within 3 months. ...Read more

Some thoughts...: In a woman with regular periods, some causes of a late period include: excessive weight loss or weight gain, increased exercising, emotional stress, having an illness, traveling, certain medications, hormonal imbalances, etc… Seeing a doctor is a good idea if symptoms are persistent, recurring, or worrisome. I'm on birth control and I had unprotected sex when I took the inactive pills. But he pulled out. The day after I started having a brown period. Lost?

Probably ok: Having intercourse during the placebo week of the pill should not result in pregnancy, especially if you've been taking them for a while. Using a second method adds extra protection but isn't needed for prevention of pregnancy. ...Read more

Period 5 day late. Had protected sex 5 days ago. On birth control, accidentally skipped inactive pills last month. Home preg test negative. Am I preg?

Not likely: On birth control pills... means not pregnant, regardless of whether one takes or skips the inactive pills, as along as a new pack is started at the appropriate time and the active pills are taken at about the same time each day. "Protected sex" means not pregnant. "Preg test negative" after missing a period for 5 days means not pregnant. With 3 things meaning not pregnant, pregnancy is unlikely. ...Read more

What is the concern?: If you are on birth control and using it correctly your chance of getting pregnant would be extremely low. When taken correctly birth control pills are very effective at preventing pregnancy? It is not unusual to not bleed sometimes when taking birth control.
