The pap smear takes cell samples from your cervix, which is the bottom part of the uterus. Any debris in the vagina is separate from the inner canal of the cervix.

ASCUS: Confirm with your physician if this is ASCUS (which can be due to inflammation). If it is ASCUS then an HPV test should have been done with it as a reflex. If it wasn't ask for an HPV test.
