I went cliff jumping in lake mead. Water was 88 deg. I plugged my nose, but water still got through. How paranoid should I be about naegleria fowleri?
Rare: I'm not sure anyone is routinely testing lake mead's waters for naegleria, so your specific risks are unknown. Infection with this organism is very rare anyway. If you start to notice changes in smell or taste, high fever, or stiff neck, you should seek medical attention immediately. Otherwise, you are probably fine. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
I live in dutchess county, ny. My kids were sweeping out our shed today. Afterwards I saw mouse droppings on floor. I am worried about hantaviris?
Monitor the kids: I think this incident is relatively minor. In theory, hantavirus can be found in rodent excreta, but you are not in one of the 'high risk' areas such as the 4 corners region of the U.S. Since there are other diseases associated with mouse droppings, I would just keep an eye on the kids - if they develop any fevers, cough or respiratory symptoms in the next week see a doc ASAP. Prefer an ID doctor. ...Read more

Went to a resteraunt&near washroom smelled bad/sour, i thought vomit asked staff said it was a bad diaper from baby, can i catch noro?
Good handwashing: Good handwashing can stop the spread of norovirus and other stool-based infections. Presume every bathroom has such germs, and one will live a safer life. That just means being watchful to avoid carrying bathroom germs out of the bathroom on one's hands. Of course, one also cannot be too paranoid about germs... but good handwashing, and not touching the doorknob directly (when leaving) will help. ...Read more
