Strep or cold? Symptoms: sore throat 5 days, ear pressure, sinus headache, cough today and yesterday. Fever for 3 days.
Needs diagnosis: The only 'definitive' way to tell is by obtaining the right testing - and in this case, a throat culture would determine if you had Strep or not. Since you have fever and ongoing symptoms, I strongly encourage you to get tested - this will help shape the treatment plan, and lead to your improvement. In the meantime, chicken soup (or pho), plenty of rest and ibuprofen for symptoms may help. ...Read more
See doctor: It is possible that you have strep throat, and this should be treated if you test positive or look clinically as if that is the diagnosis. This may be several other things besides that, but very few of them will have the potential for severe complications like rheumatic fever that strep throat does. ...Read more
Sore throat and congestion for 10 days. Congestion almost gone, throat sore am/pm. See dr or wait?
Doctor can evaluate: New throat soreness or spots can be from a strep throat infection (antibiotics needed), a cold or mild flu (antibiotics are not used), or from some other cause such as allergies or irritants. Usually, a person sees the doctor if the sore throat is bothersome, recurrent, or doesn't go away in a day or two (mainly to check for strep throat). Throat lozenges can decrease throat pain, for 1-2 days. ...Read more

Fever, headache, sore legs, rash (told viral) for 3 days. Then cough only for 2 days. Now back to fever, headache and sore legs. Still viral?
Hard to determine : Without seeing the rash and examining you, it's really tough to say whether viral. Chances are it is, as over 80% of these type scenarios are indeed viral. However, there are bacterial and ricketsial diseases that can do what you describe as well. Since you're not improving, it may be time to get reassessed and maybe even some lab work to see if this still fits the "just a virus" category. ...Read more

Maybe strep mono flu: Nose and throat symptoms can be from flu/cold viruses, strep throat, allergies, etc., except that allergies usually don't cause a fever. Flu causes fever. The doctor can test again for strep. Strep can recur. Doctors also have a 15-minute test for Flu A and B, so if the problem is influenza, doctors can consider treating with Tamiflu (oseltamivir). Mono is caused by the EBV virus, and can be tested for. ...Read more

Sounds new: Your symptoms seem to be related to a new illness. You should see your doc because although it is likely a new onset viral syndrome, you may be experiencing a complication of the bacterial illness for which you were just treated. A good diagnosis will require thorough history with many questions and perhaps some testing. Don't delay too long, especially if you're progressively worsening! ...Read more

Virus? Allergy?: Probably these were not bacterial infections but viral, or perhaps an allergy problem. Except for strep, which apparently was negative by swab, few bacterial infections do this.
