Sacroiliac joint: If this pain is posterior in nature, you may have sacroiliac dysfunction/sacroilitis secondary to either leg length discrepancy from carrying trays with hips tilted. I keep waking up or being woken up by severe pain in my right hip joint. Sometimes, like today it lasts all morning. And causes acute pain when I try to use my right leg.

Sorry for your pain: Try lying flat on your back either on the floor or in bed. Bring your right knee up to about 90 degrees - like you are going to pull it to your chest but not so far. Slowly and gently, rotate your right knee towards the left. If it reproduces your pain, it could in fact be coming from the ball and socket hip joint. You really need to see your doc and get an xray of the right hip. ...Read more

Given levaquin (levofloxacin) and antibiotic shot in rump for pneum. Now having severe pain in hip joint on injection leg also shoulder pain. Is this side affect?

Not normally from: Levaquin (levofloxacin). Some people will have myalgias from intermuscular injections, but not joint pain as often. There is evidence linking Levaquin (levofloxacin) and development of neuropathy, but usually a single dose would not cause it and most likely not in the shoulder. You may have inflammation from the pneumo irritating past arthritis. Pay attention to any other unusual symptoms and check back with your doc. ...Read more

Can mirana iud cause severe pain in the hips? I had my iud placed on September 2nd. Since then, I have developed severe hip pain in both hips.

Very doubtful: Hip pain has not been listed as a potential side effect. It releases a low dose progesterone, also commonly found in birth control pills, which also do not have hip pain as a side effect. You should be evaluated for potential causes of hip pain like an autoimmune arthritis, by your primary care practitioner or be referred to an orthopedist. ...Read more

Diagnosing sacroiliitis severe localized hip pain in one hip, now in both, resulting in sacroiliitic diagnosis by one md. Pcp saying "just muscle spasms" even tho I could not walk b/c in such severe pain. States xrays would have shown sacroiliitis "or any

I: I agree with the previous response by dr. Serba, but would like to make a few additional points. Typically, pain from sacroiliitis occurs primarily in the very low back/upper buttocks area. I am not entirely clear of the location of your pain, but you refer to the hip. There are a number of structures in and around the hip that could be the source of the problem and it is sometimes difficult to sort out. If you have not been seen by a rheumatologist, that could be one direction to pursue. Orthopedic or physiatry evaluation could be helpful if you believe that your problem might be more "mechanical" in origin. Perhaps you could discuss the various options/strategies with your primary care physician. ...Read more

I hit my crotch bone extremely hard. Experiencing severe pain, tenderness, vaginal bleeding, leg, back, and hip pain. Could this require medical treatme?

Flucuating hormones. Irregular periods + acne at 42! joints crack esp hips. Severe hip pain, linked to hormones? Treatment?

See your doctor: It may be best to first start with your pcp, and discuss the concerns you have. So that you have a starting point. Then s/he can also do a hormone panel assessment to see how you're doing to ck your Progesterone and estrogen levels. The severe hip pain needs to be assessed further too. So that may be related, in that hormones have a protective effect on bone, heart, and brain. But it may also be that it is completely separate, and unrelated to your hormones. So this is why you need to speak to your doctor. ...Read more

I had hip pain but was told I have a L6 and it is causing joint pain. Also told one wrong move with weight on my back could break it? Is that true?

Absolutely not: Having a "sixth" lumbar vertebrae carries no increased risk of back problems at all, nor do you have be careful. There are normally 12 thoracic vertebrae, each with an attached set of ribs; 5 lumbar which then end on a solid fused part of the spine known as the sacrum. If there is one less pair of ribs or one extra motion segment in the sacrum, it is called by some as having "6" lumbar vertebra. ...Read more

How do you alleviate hip pain in a 15 year old with joint hypermobility?

Make a diagnosis: For a 15 year old to have hip pain you need a more definitive diagnosis than hyper mobility.
Possibilities include residuals of cdh, slipped capital femoral epiphysis. Mono-articular inflammatory joint disease is a possibility. I would be slow to blame it on "hyper mobility".
Consider also labral tear (rare in 15 year old) or impingement (cam lesion) also rare unless very intense dancer. ...Read more

Hip pain in a 15 year old who has joint hypermobility, what can be done?

Hip pain in a 15 year old who has joint hypermobility, what can be done?

Rheum and PMR: Hypermobility is usually best treated by an exercise program focusing on improving proprioception, dynamic control of joint movement, and aerobic capacity. There is a very limited role for surgery in most typical cases of hypermobility, especially in adults. A Rheumatologist would be helpful to rule out more worrisome causes of hypermobility and a PM&R doc could assist with symptom management. ...Read more
