Pain is self limited: Even though the lain is severe the cause is benign. When the cyst ruptures, the swelling will decrease and the pain will lessen. Really varies: It depends upon whether or not the cyst was simple/fluid filled versus blood filled and how big it was. It is also important to check to be sure there is no ongoing bleeding from a blood filled cyst and to be sure the cyst was not the result of an infection/abscess. No specific time : How do you know your daughter has a cyst? Was it diagnosed by ultrasound? Many cysts resolve by themselves, especially if it is a follicular cyst. However, if it is hemorragic or there are multiple cysts, it may not resolve without hormonal therapy (i.e. Birth control pills).
