In the mean time, as long as you don't have a chronic disease that requires fluid restriction, increase your fluid intake with non-caffeinated and non-sugary drinks. Also fruits and vegetables rich in potassium such as banana might help. See your PCP. ...Read more

Power w/c ran over foot. Severe pain in medial foot (increases with weight bearing), tender to touch, x-ray showed no breaks. What should I do now?

GetBackOnYourChair..: Break or no break, keep off it for a few days (rent some crutches) 'till you can start to walk and if you can't after, say, a week or ten days, get a re-check and they may repeat the x-ray to see if something shows up that didn't on the first one. Elevate it as much as possible to keep the swelling down (swelling slows healing) and if it helps, apply ice to it, even a few days later it may help. ...Read more

Running, hit bottom of foot on curb edge. Severe pain. Ran today. Foot gave out on me. Saw dr in urgent care said nothing. Pain to walk and stand?

Possible Fracture: Sounds like it could be a contusion or acute plantar fasciitis. If an x-ray was done at the urgent care center, then a fracture would have been determined. If not, go get one. I had a patient recently who fractured his foot on the edge of a stair. Meanwhile, apply ice/cold pack 2-3 times per day for 30 minutes at a time, and keep the foot elevated. MRI might be needed if there's no improvement. ...Read more

I am wearing one newer (3 years old) and one older orthotic that my podiatrist had made. I have had severe pain in the foot with the newer orthotic.?

Not the Same.: The orthotics are different enough to effectively cause a change in the foot function in the one with the newer orthotic. This change has stressed the foot and now it is responding. I suppose you have a good reason to be wearing two different orthotics, but this practice is asking for trouble. Have your podiatrist check the newer one and put you on the right road to recovery. ...Read more

I woke up this morning with SEVERE pain in my ankle/foot & it shoots up the back of my calf. I didn't hurt it that I can recall?

Inflammation: If there has been no injury, then acute inflammation such as seen in tendonitis, arthritis or gout must be suspected. If you don't get prompt relief with NSAIDS like ibuprofen, or if there is associated redness or swelling, or severe calf tenderness, get examined by a physician for diagnosis and treatment. Appropriate tests will be ordered after the evaluation. ...Read more
