Severe Pain After A Mri Arthrography On My Hip Take Aspirin
I have cervical stenosis and fibromyalgia. With activity my upper chest area aches with severe pain. My thoracic MRI was good. What could cause this?
Coronary arteries?: 59yo female reports chest pain with exercise. Physicians generally rule out the most worrisome pathology ascribed to symptoms patients report. Before all other considerations, a 59yo women with chest pain upon exercise needs an in-depth evaluation for angina pectoris and coronary artery disease. If a workup is negative, then consult with an Osteopath. These symptoms require expeditious evaluation. ...Read more
Mri or magnetic resonance imaging is one of the more recently developed imaging modalities available to physicians. It uses powerful magnets to generate images. There is no ionizing radiation which is a major advantage over many other modalities. Mri is the best imaging exam that we have for most soft tissue and joint related problems. There are radiologists ...Read more
Not unusual: An MRI arthrogram is preformed usually injecting gadolinium and iodinated contrast. One could have allergy reaction to either. Pain after this study is rarely sever. Talk to doctor who did the study. Infection or blood in the joint could produce pain. Rather than taking a pain med do not overlook the possibility of an adverse reaction. If clear for adverse reaction any mild pain medicate is ok. ...Read more

Yes and No: You should not use any narcotic medication for joint pain related to arthrograms. NSAID such as motrin or tylenol (acetaminophen) may help. I think that joint pains related to the arthrogram can in part be related to a patient's sensitivity to one or more of the drugs used in the study, but not an allergy as such. Many of my patients get good relief with adding 25 mg of benedryl orally with the NSAID. ...Read more
Is MR arthrography of the hip joint a fancy way of saying MRI of the hip with contrast media (Gadalinium)?
Yes and no.: A standard MRI with contrast usually implies an intravenous injection of gadolinium. An MRI arthrogram means that the contrast is injected directly into the joint space, usually with fluoroscopic guidance of the needle. ...Read more
Using a Tesla 3 MRI s it possible to have a normal MRI of hip and then in the same session have a MR-guided MR arthrography of the hip joint?
Yes: Yes you can have both. MRI contrast is injected into hip joint and MRI repeated. Theory being that if MRI without contrast revealed the problem no further testing needed. If it was normal a repeat MRI with contrast in joint may show abnormalities not seen on the first study without contrast. (Gadalinium) ...Read more

I am suffering with severe pain in my hips for last 5 yrs, have hla b27 positive. Mri was okay. Please advice?
AS: Ankylosing spondylitis is of concern. A plain x-ray of the sacroiliac joints would pick up images of bone sclerosis better than an mri. A rheumatologist can discern and advise. Hard to say: One white spot on brain MRI is nonspecific. If it is in a particular area (corpus callosum) it would be more concerning, otherwise it could have been from prior brain infection (encephalitis) or trauma (shearing injury). Your symptoms are a bit more worrisome. Perhaps a spinal fluid analysis will help. Neurology consult would be useful. ...Read more

More complex study.: I assume you mean an MRI of the hip compared to an MRI of the hip with an arthrogram. Both studies include an MRI of the hip. The study with an arthrogram helps to better visualize the labral and articular cartilage about the hip. MRI ARTHROGRAM LEFT HIP ; A very small subchondral cyst was noted along the lateral roof of the right acetabulum What does this mean?
Early DJD: Subchondral cysts mean cysts in the bone underneath the cartilage, and are a reaction of the bone to degenerative and stress related changes about the joint space. I had an MRI of my right hip with arthrogram to diagnose labral tear and radiologist said dye went to lymph nodes quickly. Why would this happen?
Inflammation: Assuming that the arthrogram was done correctly, and contrast placed into the joint space, then heart rate and motion will not affect uptake. The contrast placed into the joint space gets absorbed by turnover of the joint fluid with uptake into the lymphatic system, and then flows into the blood vessels. Contrast outside of the joint gets absorbed directly by the blood vessels, and usually not... ...Read more
