On average how long from the start of viral gastroenteritis symptoms to get to the point of the severe nausea/vomiting stage?
Symptom duration: Well there are quite a number of variables here-such as 'what virus', 'you' the patient, your condition 'before you got sick' etc. So it's hard to give a precise answer. Most of the times, it's just a day or two. If it's longer than that, then it may not be 'so simple' after all and would need professional evaluation. Dehydration, kidney damage, 'passing out', falls, muscle damage etc could result ...Read more

I hit my head on the roof of the car really hard now I have a slight headache and severe nausea, vomiting and dizziness is this cause for concern?
Every 2 months I get severe nausea & vomiting. All tests are 'normal'. Doc says its just bad luck w/ stomach flu. Could there be another cause?
Guy or gal? If gal, could be related to hormones, menses, ovulation (perhaps just from one of the ovaries, thus every other month). Check timing of symptoms with menstrual cycle.
Could be cyclic vomiting syndrome; could be other triggers for the symptoms, could even be migraine related. Could be other stuff too.
Keep looking. ...Read more

Yes, but...: Yes, it can cause bad stomach pain, nausea and vomiting, but I've never seen cases with severe nausea and vomiting. Perhaps there is more going on like pancreatitis? Doc said, Inflammation in back right lung where it hurt, was coughing bad, still coughing a bit, but now severe nausea, and vomiting, with lung pain??
Chest pain: There is no such thing as 'lung pain'. There is pleuritic pain related to inflammation of the inner lining of the chest due to problems in the thoracic cavity. Given your symptoms, I recommend that you get evaluated in an emergency room where a chest xray should be done to evaluate what is going on. Update me with what happens after you are evaluated. ...Read more
16 weeks pregnant and have severe nausea and vomiting and at the ER, passed out took samples but no IV fluids, shouldn't we be hooked up to IV?
Depends...: It all depends on how dehydrated they estimated you were. If they thought that you could go by with oral fluids only most likely they understood that the best treatment option was just that. If you persist vomiting and not tolerating even small sips of liquid might be time to go back for reevaluation. For now try very small sips of fluid and maybe dry crackers to help your stomach feel better. ...Read more

Viral Labyrinthitis: It sounds like you may have a severe case of labyrinthitis -an infection of the middle ear. You're at risk from volume loss (dehydration) given the GI symptoms. I assume any head motion triggers the dizziness? If so, try to stay hydrated with a child's sippy-cup. Then you don't have to move your head at all to drink. I would have a low threshold to go to the ER- they can give you IV fluids/meds. ...Read more
