I have very severe itching and flaking of the scalp. I was told by a dermatologist that I "might" have sebborheic dermatitis. What shampoos can I use to help with the problem of stubborn itching? I've tried head and shoulders and demorex.
Seb derm: I'd use a tar based shampoo, zinc based, or a salicylic acid based shampoo. Sometimes its good to rotate them, using one one day and another the next. Leave in 3 min before rinsing. Most likely if all: over the scalp: seborrheic dermatitis. Try an anti-dandruff shampoo, pharmacy generic brand. If you get immediate relief progressing to normal, that is all you need. Itchy scalp: Try a dandruff shampoo in the shower every night. Use a Hydrocortisone liquid solution after the shampoo if you still itch. If there is no relief, see a dermatologist. Otc shampoos include head & shoulders, selson, dhs, nizoral, (ketoconazole) tsal, tgel, etc. The generics should also work. ...Read more
