fuild in ears that lead to clogged aches in both ears. I'm experiencing shortness of breath With a slight sore throat with blood in mucous?

Go to ER: Unless you can see your PCP immediately you need to go and be professionally evaluated. Shortness of breath suggests something in your lungs and blood in mucous? From where is the mucous? Please go and get seen and hopefully this will turn out to minor, but does have the potential to be severe. Best wishes. ...Read more

Excessive Cough with mucus, heaviness in the chest, shortness of breath with pain in chest?

See a doctor: Without a chest x-ray it is difficult to tell. Your symptoms sound like you could have pneumonia or bronchitis. I would see a doctor today especially if your shortness of breath is worsening. You can also try taking your albuterol inhaler every 4-6 hours, stop smoking, and try Mucinex (guaifenesin) that is over the counter to help get up the mucous. Ibuprofen may also help with the pain from the cough. ...Read more

Shortness of breath, normal 02 levels, no cough, no mucus. I had a diagnosis of acute bronchitis 10 days ago ; can this be something else?

Maybe asthma?: A lot of people don't like to here that they may have asthma but 1/3 of the American summer Olympic Team has asthma. It is way under diagnosed and not well treated when it is diagnosed. People are frequently told they have an infection like bronchitis or pneumonia and rxed with antibiotics inappropriately. You live in Iowa. They have an excellent pulmonology program at the University. Go there! ...Read more

I have had a dry cough for like two months now, and now it is accompanied by shortness of breath and constant mucus in the lungs, what could this be?

I have had a dry cough for like two months now, and now it is accompanied by shortness of breath and constant mucus in the lungs, what could this be?

Be seen: It could be several things, from an infection to more chronic lung diseases. If pneumonia, it sounded atypical at first, but you may be getting an infection on top of it. Emphysema (COPD) can act this way, as can asthma. Drug reactions can cause cough. Lung cancer also has to be considered. Shortness of breath is a serious problem and needs more evaluation. ...Read more

I teach + I have been home w/ acute bronchitis for 2 days. I cough up mucus + have some shortness of breath, but feel better. Can I return tomorrow?

Flu; talk to doctor: U should not return to work until u r absolutely free of symptoms, as their is a risk of transmitting bronchitis to ur students. I assume u were tested for the flu; most bronchitis is viral in origin, & most viruses have no effective treatment. Most viruses run their course in 7 to 14 days. All u can do is hydrate, rest, get the influenza vaccine, & wait. Good luck, thanx for asking HealthTap! ...Read more

I'm having shortness of breath/ tightening in my chest. My inhaler isn't working as much. I cough up mucus with black streaks. Cough when can't breat?

Mgt: If your inhaler is not as effective in controlling the cough, your respiratory plan needs to be adjusted. The black streaks may be dried blood or tar. If you are smoking, avoid all smoke exposure, including second hand smoke. I would suggest a follow up with your PCP, and a follow up can be arranged online. Healthtap. Smoker with anxiety symptoms. Cough mucus short of breath. Heard quitting causes shortness of breath. I ALREADY can't breathe. Nervous to try.

You can quit: There's a rarely mentioned fact I know: The smoking breath pattern - In, Hold, Exhale (fully, slowly) thru lips - is very, very good for you. That pattern alone can lower BP (for awhile) and makes you feel really good. When smokers quit, they lose this advantage. Some of the distress is due to this. You can win by continuing to do the breath pattern w/out the cigarette! 'Smoke' w/out cigarettes! ...Read more

Get treated: You need to get checked out and treated. Whether your problem is copd, asthma, bronchiectasis, or something else, the longer the illness goes on in a poorly-controlled state, the worse it will be for your long-term health. This applies to your entire body, including your heart, not just your lungs. ...Read more

I have excess mucus in lungs/throat-barely comes up when I cough-Shortness of breath and I have to cough frequently. No Bronchitis. Maybe asthma?

Cough/Sputum: If you have had a recent upper respiratory infection (past 3 months) and the cough/mucous started afterwards, this could be "post-infectious cough" that resembles cough-variant asthma. The latter is possible too. Further history taking is necessary to help direct you- I will be happy to see you in an online appointment or you could see your PCP as well. ...Read more
