GI-flatukence: Bloating, belching, foul gas can be from multiple causes: bacterial infection, amebic infection, gallbladder disease, irritable bowel syndrome, and many other diseases of the GI tract. Hemorrhoids likely.: This is likely due to hemorrhoids. The history strongly suggest it, since pain is after a bowel movement, and likely associated with straining. It could be anal fissure, or possibly another colon/anal issue. Gastroenteritis: There are multiple possible explanations here. My advice would be to see a doctor if, within the next several days, the symptoms continue despite the resolution of the diarrhea. I've had left abdomen pain, occasional hard bowel movements and microscopic blood in stool. Now notice I have some small areas of black tar stool that I haven't yet told doctor. Her working differencal is IBS with diverticulitis. Is correct w/ tar?
Melena: Black tarry stool, otherwise known as melena, can sometimes be due to diverticulitis, but certainly can be a sign of bleeding in the upper digestive tract. Gas, diarrhea: May have an infection, gastroenteritis. Did you eat somewhere new? Travel?Since it is lasting 5 days would go to urgent care and have stool checked for bacteria.May be camphylobacter for which zithromax helps, or salmonella, shigella E coli ( usually try cipro (ciprofloxacin) but now it is more resistant). If more recent onset then he should try otc remedies like pepto-bismol or Imodium (loperamide) ad.
