How rare is anterior tibialis muscle herniation? And how long after surgery to repair should I experience pain?
Rare: Anterior tibialis muscle rupture is rare. The surgery to repair this will depend on how much separation there is between the two ends of the muscle. Function of this muscle is to elevate arm in motion called abduction. Since tear is at place that tendon of muscle attaches to shoulder musculotendinous cuff, it will likely not heal spontaneously. Surgery to attach tendon will be required. ...Read more

Absent any of these factors, pain in the anterior lower leg and ankle muscles is due to one of 2 conditions: 1/ tendinitis or strain of the anterior muscle group (edl, ta muscles) in the leg, or 2/ shin splints.
