I have tried senna tablets nightly, also stool softeners, some suppositories. Must strain and push hard and; bowel movements are hard little balls, ?
Eat more fiber: Adequate fiber (25-36g/d), plenty of fluid & regular physical activity are important for regular bowel function. Osmotic laxatives are also available over-the-counter - just ask your pharmacist. If you haven't had a colonoscopy in over 10 years, it's time. Not necessarily: One with constipation needs to be sure there is no other disease causing it. If constipation is just due to slow movement of the food and poop through the gut, then the things to try are vegetables, water, prune juice, prunes, fiber+water, Miralax, senokot or other senna, milk of magnesia, other laxatives... Constipation: Medication-induced constipation can be difficult to deal with. It is unlikely that a stool softener will make you pass a bowel movement. You would be better off with a laxative of some sort. You might consider trying magnesium citrate or MiraLAX on a one-time basis.
