Lying: It used to be suggested that they be done while in the shower with soap on your fingers to make it easier to feel things. But, in the past year, the new recommendations are to do the exam when lying down to get flattening of the breast tissue against the ribs. Physical exam: It sounds like the doctor was describing their findings on the physical exam. The introitus is the opening of the vaginal. If the term virginal introitus was used I suspect they were describing an intact hymen -- meaning the physical exam was consistent with a women who had not yet been sexually active or had disruption of the hymen. ...Read more

Not till 21: The USPST recommends Pap test once every 3-5 year for women 21-65. They no longer recommend a yearly test. However, they also recommend women younger than 25 who are sexually active get screened for sexually transmitted diseases even if they do not engage in high risk activity.
