Check eye: Sounds more like issues with vitreous or retinal changes, such as floaters or detachments, and the colored shapes and bright dots could also be secondary to post-traumatic complex migraine events. Could use a prophylactic anti-migraine drug, and see if events depart. ...Read more

Takes a while: I am guessing that your ophthalmologist (not an optometrist i hope) evaluated your eye including a dilated retinal examination. Since nothing therapeutic was recommended, you are probably having changes with age in your vitreous, which commonly includes the development of floaters in the vision. The fluids move very slowly and it can take years for some spots to disappear. ...Read more

May be serious: Bright dots are potentially a sign of a retinal tear or detachment and immediate evaluation is indicated. Other possible causes include intraocular inflammation and stimulation of the retina due to normal aging changes of the vitreous gel in the back of the eye.
