Exam: It's difficult to know for sure, but an exam would be most helpful in your case. Subtle grayish spots that move with eye movements are usually vitreous floaters & are seen in the light. You describe that you don't notice this spot in light, but presumably when you turn off the lights. A new floater is a common cause, but the floater would tend to move around and not be exactly in the center of the vision. All other causes are mostly involving the retina, so a dilated eye exam by an ophthalmologist is indicated.
