Yes: If you have erection that lasts for more than 4 hours, you need to see a urologist or go the local emergency room. Don't be ashamed.: Urologists and their staffs are professionals who deal will all manner of male sexual health problems. There really is nothing to be embarrassed about. All appointments and matters discussed are completely private, and are sacrosanct in the doctor-patient relationship. Although saying 'ed' or 'fertility' in the appointment-making process can conceal your reasons, usually direct & honest is best. ...Read more

I travel often for work. I find that intense anticipation for sex with my wife when i'll see her again often affects my erection negatively. Normal?
Yes: The male sexual response reflects a dynamic balance between exciting and inhibiting forces of the autonomic nervous system. The sympathetic component tends to inhibit erections, whereas the parasympathetic system is one of several excitatory pathways. Anything that causes anxiety or excitement may negatively affect the quality of one's erection due to overstimulation of the sympathetic system. ...Read more

Have you checked in w/your family physician? From what you've mentioned (which isn't much), the good news is that you're in a good relationship, which is half the battle. While it's not impossible, I doubt that your erectile dysfunction is mental/emotional as long as you two are happy w/each other and aren't fighting, etc. One caveat is that you can't be stressed about finances, family & friends, either.
Once that's cleared away, we need to consider your over all health. Are you physically fit? Or overweight/obese? Do you smoke? Diabetes? High blood pressure? High cholesterol? Heart disease? Medications can cause ed. So can chemicals hidden in over-the-counter dietary supplements. And of course, testosterone. You need enough.
That's why it's important to go back to your family physician and bring all your medical records from your 2 urologists.
One last point of clarification for your family physician. Can you get erect at other times when your wife isn't present? Have you ever been able to have an erection? What's changed in your life (and hers) prior to this becoming an issue? Answer these questions for your family physician to be able to better help you out. Good luck! ...Read more
If physician agrees: Stopping Avodart (dutasteride) will not lead to any serious problems although the therapeutic benefit on your prostate will be lost. The trial off the medicine to see if it helps with sexual dysfunction is not unreasonable.
