Better Rx?: This isn't really the most targeted therapy for seborrheic dermatitis. You have a lot of choices. A salicylic acid face wash, or something containing ketoconazole, may be the most helpful. Your physician can guide you. Seborrheic dermatitis isn't curable but is very manageable. Greasy vs dry: Seborrheic dermatitis is usually caused by susceptibility to a yeast called malassezia furfur which has a propensity for oil or sebum. It can occur on scalp, face, and torso. Dry scalp can be caused by many skin conditions including eczema or psoriasis. No that is not true: but instead of picking first try salicylic acid shampoo and see dermatologist for great topical prescriptions to remove scales ...Read more

See a dermatologist: Itching and flaking scalp can be caused by a lot of things. Certain food sensitivities can contribute to these symptoms, but so can many other things including medications, stress, psoriasis, eczema, and seborrheic dermatitis (among many causes).
