Hi there, Does regular use of sleeping pills have any negative long-term or short-term effects? Thanks, Sean Are Sleeping Pills Okay?
You may become physically or psychologically dependent. Many medications for sleep, including OTC ones, can impair normal sleep stage progression leading to less restful/rejuvenating sleep.
There can be a role for chronic use in sleep disorders and if a related mental disorder is improved with adequate sleep. Make your Dr. Aware of your use of all substances including over the counter ones. ...Read more

Asthma Pneumonia: If he has a past history of asthma treated with Singlair, the that would be a good plan. Mild asthma can progress rapidly into something much worse sometimes without treatment. Does he have a nebulizer with albuterol available at home? Is he short of breath or breathing fast? Can he talk without breathing in between words of a sentence? It may be better to be seen by a physician now. ...Read more

Pain began in the middle of right side of back then moved to abdominal area Can only lay down to relieve pain had a scan it was normal?
May not be: The back! The problem may well be in the abdomen. The thought here is this could be related to the kidney such as a kidney stone. The mobility of the pain suggest the back is not the cause. See your doc as soon as possible for consult. ...Read more

I have shingles and I would just like to know if you think swimming would cause worse scarring. The shingles began one week ago.
A person with shingle can transmit the chicken pox virus to some one who is not immune. Do not go swimming unless all the lesions have crusted over, and preferable till after the crusts have fallen off.
For good health - Have a diet rich in fresh vegetables, fruits, whole grains, milk and milk products, nuts, beans, legumes, lentils and small amounts of lean meats. Avoid saturated fats. Drink enough water daily, so that your urine is mostly colorless. Exercise at least 150 minutes/week and increase the intensity of exercise gradually. Do not use tobacco, alcohol, weed or street drugs in any form.
Practice safe sex, if you have sex. ...Read more

Began effexor-xr 9 weeks ago for gad and health anxiety. Up to 112.5 mg today. No effect yet. What is the average dose at which an effect is seen?
Effexor (venlafaxine): It sounds like your doctor is being gradual in titrating your dose. I have seen some effectiveness of Effexor (venlafaxine) around 150mg/day. However, I hope you're not relying completely on Effexor (venlafaxine) to relieve your health anxiety. Psychotherapy is essential also. Best wishes. ...Read more
How many time I have to wait to se changes on a tretinex treatment for acne. I began 2 month ago with this, and I have not seen advances. Thanks.
Acne Treatment: If you do not see any affect after 3-4 months, you need to start a different medication. I like epiduo. Epiduo® gel has been proven safe and effective for short- and long-term acne treatment. In fact, clinical trials with thousands of patients show that many people’s breakouts visibly improve and continue to get better with consistent treatment. ...Read more

Penile pain for over a yr. Began w sneeze. Seen many drs. In past month or 2 noticed my penis gets extremely cold to touch, often painfully. Ideas?
Continue evaulation.: Your symptoms sound troubling, & it seems like your doctors haven't come up with a diagnosis. I recommend seeing a urologist who specializes in erectile dysfunction, since they have a wide experience with penile complaints. Symptoms of cold & pain sound often go with problems of circulation & blood flow. There are many possibilities to explore; further workup with possible imaging is needed. ...Read more
I'm having nonstop PVC's. I've seen a Cardiologist and an Electrophysiologist and both have said they are benign. I'm wondering if an Anxiety medicine I began taking a week ago is causing more PVC's. It has L-Theanine and Relora®.
The supplements you mention are just that...nutritional "supplement" preparations which are touted to help all kinds of issues... they are most likely not hurting likewise they are most likely NOT HELPING...You mnight consider some behavior modification therapy (Cognitive Behavioral therapy), BIOFEEDBACK (sometimes VERY effective with cardiac arrythmias) and ACUPUNCTURE

A recent cat scan showed thickening of uterus. I am 66 yrs old, menopause began 2005. Should I be concerned?
Laparascopic appendectomy 3 months ago, naval scar suddenly began peeling & is now 'draining' pinkish fluid. No pain/swelling. Infected or normal?

I have a sore (oozing slightly) on an old surgical scar that began as a blister. It has been over a month and hasn't healed. Should I be concerned?
9 months post open inguinal hernia mesh repair I now have discomfort. A few weeks before I began*mild* ab exercises. Is scar tissue the likely cause?
Scar tissue: You had an open inhumanly hernia repair 9 months ago and started working out. It is possible that scar tissue is the cause. Try to build your exercise program up over time. The repair is as healed as it will get by 9 months. If you continue to have discomfort call your surgeon for evaluation. He/she will want to know what/where/when and how it gets better or worse. ...Read more
In 1989 I had surgery to remove an abcess from my brain. 9 yrs later seizures began and now 2014 scar issue removing surgery is an option. Good idea?
Potential option: Depends upon frequency and intensity of your seizures, and whether your medications have been unsuccessful. Surgery could potentially stabilize the process depending on brain location, but could backfire, and create additional problems. Would suggest you also consider a vagal nerve stimulator approach, but if surgery is an option, seek out additional opinions, especially from an epilepsy doc. ...Read more

I am so sorry you are going through this. Based on the information in your post, it sounds like you are going through or completed a miscarriage. You will need to follow up with your doctor for a repeat blood level to make sure the level is down to zero, which will confirm complete miscarriage. If not, you may need a D&C (procedure to clean out the uterus).
Take good care. ...Read more
Had partial vaginal hysterectomy 7 yrs ago. 3 months ago, began wrking w/ personal trainer. Can scar tissue cause gut-ripping pain. Will it bleed inter?
"Gut-ripping" bad!: Scarring or adhesions from surgery can tear with activity, and it can cause pain, although usually not bleeding. However, pain described as "gut-wrenching" sounds pretty bad. If that is continuing, you should be seen so a good history and exam can be done to give you a better answer! ...Read more

Recurrent BV...: ...is the best bet. Tea tree oil and garlic will not help, and I doubt hydrogen peroxide will either. Probably you will need another 7 day course of oral metronidazole. After that, vaginal metronidazole (MetroGel®) or boric acid vaginal capsules often are effective in preventing recurrence. If your doc is unfamiliar with these, find a gyn with interest in infectious diseaseas. Good luck! ...Read more
