Being sent to a certified allergist for a complete allergy and immunology workup. I know what allergy test is but what does immunology work up entail?
Normal immune status: An immune evaluation is undertaken when your allergist is concerned about how well your immune system works. First, we look at antibody levels, IgG and the 4 subclasses, IgA (the most common Ig deficiency) , IgM and IgE (the allergic antibody). Allergy test came back highly allergic to all dairy, all wheat, gluten, all yeast, rice, eggs, some fish. Could anything else be wrong?Why so much?
Doubtful results: I wonder if you had your test with a board certified allergist, or was it a random blood test you had with another practitioner. It is unlikely for an adult to be allergic to all these items and i stronly doubt the accuracy of these results. Allergy test i took to nuts, fish, milk, soy, was negative. This means, there is no reason for the tongue to swell, and kill me? I have health anxiety
Allergy tests: The tests you had done were food allergens. Although it is encouraging that they are negative, there are other things you could be allergic to, such as aeroallergens: pollens, grasses, trees, weeds and even animals. Any kind of a reaction to allergen could cause tongue swelling. There are other causes of tongue swelling, but allergies & trauma are most common. Not common to kill, though. ...Read more

A drop of an allergen extract is pricked into the skin and, within 15-18 min., a localized hive will emerge if you are allergic to the extract in question. The reaction will subside in 40-60 minutes. Relax!: Allergy skin testing has come a long way over the years. The procedure is performed by board certified allergists. It typically takes about 2 seconds to place the test ( back or forearm) with results in 20 minutes. A positive test will feel like a mosquito bite. Allergy skin test: After the allergist reviews the history and performs an exam the skin test process includes: cleansing the area to be tested with alcohol (back or arms), pressing allergy test device (containing drop of allergen) firmly to the skin for 2 seconds, waiting 20 minutes, then measuring the size of the wheal (bump) and flare (surrounding redness). Skin Prick Testing: Food allergies are diagnosed first by getting a detailed clinical history of reaction. If history is concerning then skin prick testing and/or serum IgE testing to concerning foods will be drawn.
