Omega 3 fats: Omega 3 fats are essential for humans because we cannot make them -- they must come from our diets or supplements. They are highly concentrated in brain, and needed for its optimal function . You can take fish oil supplements -- at least 1-2 grams/day of epa and 500mg/day of dha (major omega 3 components in fish oil). There are also plant-based forms. http://tinyurl.com/ne78c3l. ...Read more

My endo prescribe me 5 mg tapazole (methimazole) should I stop taking omega 3, vit ? Is there any natural treatment for grave desease ? I am scared with medication

Grave's Disease: You should not have any fears of taking tapazole (methimazole). The medication has been around for over 30 years and works well for the treatment of grave's disease. There are no proven natural treatments for grave's disease. You should not stop omega 3s or vitamins, however, during your treatments. The disorder should resolve in 1-2 years and you should no longer need the tapazole (methimazole). Do not fear taking this. ...Read more

Are omega-3 fatty acids just as effective as any antidepressant?

Are omega-3 fatty acids just as effective as any antidepressant?

Not so far: There hasn't yet been a study directly comparing omega 3 fatty acids to antidepressant treatment -- so we can't conclude the 2 are equivalent or that efa's are better. However, there are some meta-analyses suggesting that omega 3's --especially when epa is 1-2 g/day over dha -- are effective. Efa's have not been used alone in these studies, tho'. Dha alone was not protective; epa was more so. ...Read more

I am taking slimming pills and omega 3. Any side effect?

Omega 3 = snake oil: Omega 3 fish oil is the same as snake oil, both are high in omega 3 fatty acids which are extremely fragile. Omega 3 fish/snake oils reduce triglycerides by impairing your liver's ablility to make them. However the oxidative stress caused by fish/snake oil actually raises your LDL cholesterol. Some day we may use the phrase "this is just more fish oil" or "here comes the fish oil salesman". ...Read more

Diet of good fats (polyunsaturated, no trans or saturated) & low glycemic index carbs added to lean protein, fruits & veggies help. Exercise is beneficial, too. ...Read more
